Brightness changes when scrolling through a web page

Hardware/software....blah! It's still a flaw! :D

What I'm saying is that AFAIK, most televisions do it based on what's on screen. If it goes from dark to light, then it'll change more drastically.

W/ the G2, I can be on a page w/ nothing but white background and black text, scroll down to more white background and black text and it flips out and goes bright. Then I scroll down some more...same content...dims again. It doesn't seem to matter if I go from dark to light. It changes randomly regardless of what's on screen or not. There's absolutely no rhyme or reason for it to change. Of course, it'll probably never get fixed and 9 out of 10 folks don't notice squat when using a smartphone, so this will be the only thread...along w/ the one on XDA. And I'm sure we'll get more people in here that'll blame my eyes and that their phone doesn't exhibit the issue. Well screw them! And screw LG! Damnit, I'm tired and my G2 is charging so I can't use it!

I keep looking for this issue and don't see it. I know plasma TV's have a tendency to dim as more and more white occupies the screen, but these are LCDs and I know your issue is different.

Is there a specific Web page we can go to so that we can test it? I've tried standard news websites where there's plenty of white with text, but I don't see the fluctuations.

It's not just a specific web page. It happens all over the menus and all the apps. But if you wanna make sure to see it...

1. Go into a room and shut off all the lights.
2. Brightness to 0, disable auto.
3. LG G2 review: Beautiful monster - GSMArena.com

Scroll fast and you'll see it flicker. If you still don't notice it there, install the app Flipboard. It happens nonstop in that app and is super annoying.

Really bizarre. I always have Flipboard installed and just went in to it again and see nothing but constant brightness. I'm at 60% in manual mode. I never use auto brightness in an of my phones since they're all lousy.

The only slight change I see in Flipboard is when you turn a page, but that's due to the 3D effect of a page turn.

Wish I knew what was going on with yours. I've never seen it mentioned in any of the many reviews on the G2.

You have to have your brightness on zero and be in a dark room with the lights out.

It doesn't surprise me that no review mentioned it. None of them mentioned how warm the phone gets either, but it does!

I guess it won't be an issue for many since I doubt many people leave their brightness on zero.

As for warmth, I'm actually happy with that. The GS3 got hot, we're talking hot, when it was having trouble finding a signal. I'm not seeing that with the G2. At worst it was a bit warm when I had it on for a very long duration. The S4 and HTC One were also pretty warm. It's the nature of these phones, but I think the G2 is better than most and certainly no worse.

It's worse than the Note 2 by a mile...of course it's also MUCH faster and MUCH smoother than the Note 2...sort of like a hot rod car vs a camry 4 cylinder, lol!

I've only had it since Thursday night, so I'm still debating. But I find myself reaching for the G2 more than the Note 2...we'll see.

Yeah, but c'mon, really, the Note is much bigger and has more surface area to dispel heat. Have you ever had other small, relatively powerful phones? They ALL get hot or at least very warm depending upon conditions.

I think it has more to do w/ the Note's CPU/GPU just plain and simply not getting hot...like my old Galaxy S3 or Thunderbolt. They never got hot, barely warm. The last phone I had and returned right away for heat was the G'Nex and the G2 gets nearly as hot. It's one of the reasons I'm considering a case. The phone is just so unbelievably fast, text is razer sharp, it gets so dim (great for my light sens eyes), and it's SO much easier to hold than the bigass Note 2.

It's funny how people have such different experiences. I and many many others complained about how hot the S3 got. I still have it and I could warm toast on it. Much of it has to do with the lousy radios that Samsungs tend to have. It's been an unfortunate trademark of Samsung. So when the phone begins searching (in areas where it has no business to since the signal is decent), it gets very hot. I'd have that virtually every day. There were times I literally had to pull it from my pocket.

With the G2 and its much better radio, I'm never searching for a signal in the same areas the S3 was. So it runs cool. Sure if I have the screen brightness up high and use it for a long period, it will get warm, but never hot...so far.

But I still think with the Note, its larger surface area can dissipate more heat. That's just physics. Kind of like a larger heat sink.

I live in PHX, so coverage was never an issue for the S3...probably why mine never got hot. I will say however that the G2's radio for both LTE and Wifi blows the doors off my Note 2. Also, if you look @ say...the benchmark Quadrant, the G2 is over 3x faster than the Note 2. So while the Note 2 may be a quad, it's literally doing nothing compared to the G2. Oddly enough, they both load web pages @ nearly the same speed, lol.

Which shows why 'benchmarks' are not always reflective of real world results.

The Note 2 feels MUCH SLOWER than the G2, so in this case I think the benchmark lines up with real world performance nicely.

I Just searched and found this thread. Glad to know I'm not alone. I never use Auto Brightness, i am usually on 50%, or about 20% at work. I noticed it when i was typing texts mostly at first. But it's any app. Normally happens when there is too much black or too much white on the screen. Its extremely annoying at lower brightness.
