call quality has suddenly tanked

Quick update -- Google Now from any screen has stayed off, and I'm two for two with good call quality.

I'm having the same exact problem for the past few weeks now, and I've turned off Ok Google from any screen and as of today the issue has returned. I'm also on Tmo too.

Based on my own experience - USA T-Mobile user - I know from experience that I have problems from a single cell tower that I reckon is buggered in some way. I can have 4 bars - and according to T-Mobile support there should always be a strong signal - and I can get poor call quality at times as described in this thread. Then other times it's perfect - same location, just different time. I turned off the OK Google from any screen just in case. And besides I don't want everything said going back to Google even if meta data.

@oregonbruin and @ragdoll08 - does this happen from a single location or everywhere? If a single location do some calls have "good" sound quality?

I experienced the same problem on Verizon the past few weeks. Took it in to a Verizon store and the employee told me it was an issue with being in global mode. Settings > More > Mobile Networks > System Select > Network Mode > Select LTE/CDMA seemed to have fixed the issue!

Seems to happen everywhere, tardus. I think one call was better than the others but it was still hard to hear me according to the person in the other end.

Wow that's not good. Keep us posted when you find something.

I had the same problem. I turned off Google now detection from any screen and it went away. I noticed Google now updated and the problem returned. After the update it must have changed back to detection from all screens. So if it returned check the setting again.

I am on Verizon. I mostly text, but when I do make a call, everyone complains that they can not understand me. Even onBluetooth. I have Factory Reset the phone several times. I have had enhanced voice on, off (i read somewhere that if I enabled Enhanced Voice, then turn it off, something is retained). I am currently trying the turn off Google Now in my settings, but did not appear to fix anything. Just changed my current Network to LTE. I was on Global. Hopefully, LG fixes this with Lollipop. I will Factory Reset again, just one...more....time....after I get Lollipop! Lol.

For me it seems to be everywhere. Today for an example, I called a friend of mine on bluetooth in the car and he said it was terrible quality. I restarted my phone and called him back, and he said I came in fine. After about 20 minutes the call dropped on his part. I called him back immediately and right away he said the voice problem was back and just as bad.

I've been noticing that the vast majority of issues callers had told me of were when I was on bluetooth over my car, however when I take them off bluetooth they said it didn't get any better. Even hanging up and calling back doesn't solve the problem, only when restarting the phone does it seem to fix it for the time being.

I would contact T-Mobile support and escalate it to technical care dept and keep detailed notes with date, name of support person - noting the ticket number. My guess is you need a new phone. If it was me, I'd do a factory restore and add back only the bare essential apps and see if there's an improvement. But that's likely a waste of time.

I have this same problem. Tmo agreed to replace my phone for $20 but I'm putting it off till I trade it in sometime next month. The phone also does this when connected to my cars Bluetooth, but works fine with my wired headphones/earpiece. Its really weird.

Have you tried turning off the OK Google detection from Google Search. Doing that resolved my troubles

I'm the original poster -- so far turning off Google Voice from any screen has also worked for me. I've now had about 5 or 6 calls since turning it off a few days ago, and all calls were good.

Color me clueless. How do I completely turn Google Voice off I the settings? I turned it off, I think, : language and input settings....google voice talking....disabled ok Google detection. Is that all?

Find the Google Settings app, then select Search & Now, then select Voice, then disable "Ok Google" detection.

Went to same place...lol. So I guess I did it. I shall see if I get a better call quality.

I have had the same issue recently. It is hit or miss whether the people I am talking to get a clear connection or hear me as if I am far away or muffled.

I will try disabling OK Google command detection and see if it fixes the problem. If it does I would think that we need to get LG and Google figuring out what the problem is.
