I decided to get a decent Android tablet to give android a good go but I am very disappointed in battery life even if you put all the third party apps to sleep maximum standby I can get is about 5 days, iPad air 11 days and the battery has been used a fair amount, my iPad Pro 10.7” 16 days and both are receiving mail and text daily, the Samsung No mail No text, also the video driver does not seem man enough for the screen suffers from judder when viewing HD CCTV live, both iPad’s perfect.
I have had a cheap unbranded tablet for a year which I thought was the reason for the juddery video and performance even though it has 4gb of ram chipset MT8752 8 cores CPU AArch64 Possessor rev 3, running Marshmallow 6.0, cast me £65 and performs about the same as the tab S3 which costs £599, so all these sites saying how brilliant it is must be on drugs

5 days? What are you doing, using for 2 hours a day? I don't sleep ANYTHING and depending on my usage I could go 2 days between charges.

What I'm asking is how the reviews can even compare to such different systems and say 2 tablets are equal when I find IOS to be far superior in so many ways, if I was to say this with a cheap unbranded tablet then I would expect to be slated but I'm not.
Also the thing most people moan about is how IOS is locked down so tight and with Android you have total control, well how do you get rid of the pesky Google apps, I’ve tried putting them to sleep but they are still there, and still shows up to want to be updated in Google play, I’ve tried many uninstallers but none will remove them, there is so much running in the background it’s ridiculous, but I'm here willing to learn, not to gloat or be funny in any way.
So the question for the seasoned Android user.

1: How do you get a decent standby time with notifications e.g. email or you might as well close the tablet down.
2: How do you get rid of Google junk e.g. Maps, Drive, Hangouts, YouTube, Google browser, Google Play Music, also a few Samsung bits Penup, Briefing, and also the Microsoft stuff as well OneNote, Word etc.

I want to use the apps that I choose, not to have them chosen for me.
Thanks

Disable the unwanted apps, don't just put them to sleep. By disabling them you will not get notified to update them.

As far as standby time have you made the selection to turn wifi off during sleep? This helps but you won't get notifications; I use my phone for all of my notifications. The setting is in connections>wifi>advanced and make the selection for "Keep wifi on during sleep" to never. As far as stock apps you don't want, all manufacturers do that, even Apple. Seems like you gave it a shot, if it's just not for you hopefully you are still within your return period.

Very true on the Apple apps, it’s just lucky there is not so many, I did set WiFi to switch off over night but to be honest didn’t have too much effect but I guess every little helps, but I will make sure on the disabled rather then a sleep, I know I shut a few down but it’s worth checking I done it to all the rest, thanks

It seems kind of odd to buy an Android device and then try to get rid of the "pesky Google apps". Like buying a Tesla and replacing the electric motor with an engine of your choice. The whole idea of using an Android device would seem to be that you now are able to take advantage of the Google features. I think that few Android users would want to switch from Google Maps and Navigation to Apple. Tried Google Photos? One of the most useful products ever! Want a different keyboard? Install it...but not on an iPad. Different launcher? Install it! I hope you give Android a chance and learn how useful most of the Google apps are. If not, then the iPad would be for you. Apple makes fantastic hardware, but just like Android, it may not fit for everyone. Enjoy the tech!

I don't have my WiFi shut off overnight, or when the screen is sleeping. Take a gander at this screenshot - VERY little drain overnight.

Why? One word - DOZE. That functionality, introduced in Marshmallow or Nougat, puts apps to a deep sleep. A lot of the notifications you see came in when I woke the tablet to take the screenshot, the apps were in Doze until then.

As a developer I must recommend the tab s3.It competes in a way with ipad pro 2017 but both are different. tab s3 is great for videos and some productivity which unless you a manic is all you require it ticks all the boxes

ipad just has more apps but a simple google search will help you out for Android

beside AMOLED display also HDR is a hardware screen in tab s3 ipad is not it's a software solution

Well hope you all had a great Christmas, now I'm impressed after stopping a default email app and rid all the blasted Google ads I now have reached a very respectful standby time of 186 hours just over a week that’s with an antivirus app running in the background and the occasional updating apps and looking at apps.
