You're not going to like this answer but several of your issues are related to trying to keep in the Microsoft ecosystem on a Google phone. While you may prefer MS apps and I'm not criticizing you for choosing that, there's just no way around the fact that Gmail, Google Now, Google Search are simply always going to be better integrated than other party software. You can still use the others of course, but if you're looking for deeper integration at the system level, it's just not going to happen.

Keep the 6P, and go to the MS Store, and for your WP fix, go to the MS Store and get a no contract Lumia 640 for $39. Since paid in full & off contract, MS should unlock it.

Yeah. I too just switched from WP to Android. Used WP since it launched and must say the learning curve is much steeper than I expected. I guess it is a matter of what you are used to...

I am really struggling to understand how I link my User profile to my google Account. I have all my google account setup but for whatever reason it doesn't link the user profile so there are areas; like contacts where ME is the local phone user ignoring my actual google Account.

I never bothered setting up a "me" profile. I just use my contacts in my Google account.

I also don't have any contacts stored on the SIM card on my device. My Google account handles all of that in the cloud.
