hey all,

trying to figure out if anyone can help. this weekend i was hiking. i like to take macros of flowers that i see along the trails.

i had a really difficult time getting the U11 to correctly focus on the spot that i was intending on numerous shots. i literally couldn't accomplish my shot even with trying to manipulate the focus point with screen presses. i just sold an s7 edge, which to my mind, was better at focusing on the spot i was going for.

am i missing something or is this a known issue? to be sure, the shots that focus correctly are brilliant.

I'm not sure what the minimal focus distance is for the U11, but that may play a role when trying to do macro shots. Also depending on how much contrast there is (between light and dark) on the subject, it may have to hunt for a good focal point. Quick question, did it struggle to focus even when you select the focal point manually?

Thanks for the response. It was the same with manual focal point or auto. It just could not focus on the end of this flower no matter my distance or zoom. It was really frustrating.

Is there supposed to be a picture attached?

No. I'm just commenting on my experience. If you need a picture, envision a pretty red flower with delicate stamen but blurry in the center. It literally would not focus on the spot I wanted.

I've noticed that the closest I can get for a macro shot is 2.5 - 3 inches. Sometimes I pull it back, focus, then slide in and let it adjust. But anything closer than about 2.5 inches will be blurry. It's not too bad, but I seem to remember the M8 and 10 (maybe my old N6 too) being able to get in a bit closer.

Good to know. That was my experience this weekend. I just picked up an s8+. I'm going to test them side by side. Not being able to get those macro shots will definitely negatively impact my assessment of the U11.

For what it's worth, my wife has the S8 and taking a macro shot on that is about the same. I can get closer by 1/4 inch if that.
