Re: Camera not improved after update

not the best looking dude but here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. one of these was taken with the Samsung s 20 ultra factory camera and the one with a warmer tone is taken with the gcam mod installed... Clearly no facial smoothing. I earned every one of those wrinkles let me see em...

Re: Camera not improved after update

Same hardware...

I think somewhere in between the two photos would be optimal. With factory camera it's a little too smoothed and cool, but with gcam port it looks really harsh. I don't know what the proper term would be for it other than harsh. It's the same reason I don't personally like Pixels for photos of people. I don't think either gets it right honestly.

Is that Gcam mod a Google App? If not, how to get and install it? TIA!

Re: Camera not improved after update

Yeah that was just security update and not the camera update. If it was camera update, Samsung would have made a big deal about it to ease little bit of the backlash it's getting. And here is my take, unless the camera quality is dumpster fire it's not going to get improved that much in software update. This camera is good and it's what it is, personally I don't think it's going to get any better based on some mythical software update in the future. If you rely on that then hold on buying the phone until actually something is pushed and if it does anything. I do agree with some of the tech bloggers who say it's hard to improve an already good camera, you need that extra special sauce to make it the best. And I don't think Samsung has it, it's a great camera still but it's what is and don't think it'll get any significantly better. Yeah the auto focus might get tweaked a bit and stuff like that but in terms of overall photo processing algorithms it won't change much if you don't like the current processing. Personal opinion of course.

Re: Camera not improved after update

Love both of those!

Yeah, it's gonna have to be something pretty special to get me off my Note. Samsung hit all the right marks on it for me. iOS needs some serious work for me to switch back to them full time, but I do still like iOS. My Note is actually the longest I've gone on Android as my daily driver. I usually switch back to iOS by now.

Re: Camera not improved after update

Camera update just started rolling out in South Korea today, so hopefully hits the U.S. soon.

Probably at least a month if we take into account carrier testing and other logistics Samsung has to run thru. Given this is little urgent they may convince the carriers to push this early, we will see. Obviously we still have to wait for carriers even on US unlocked.

For those that are somewhat new to early adobting a Samsung phone, their S series cameras have been shaky at launch since the S7. They will usually release 2 firmware updates sometime in the first 3 months of release, as feedback rolls in.

The Note line doesn't have the same issues because the camera is more refined by then.

Although some issues never fully go away, I've noticed major improvement by late Spring. It's weird that this happens, but Apple seems to be the only company that gets it right out of the gate.

Re: Camera not improved after update

This is why Samsung phones irritate me to no end. I hate the smoothing and it's been there for a long time. It's a part of their camera processing software at this point. This is why I'm looking at other OEMs this year for a phone. I'm hoping OnePlus ups their camera game and the OnePlus 8 Pro is pretty good.

Re: Camera not improved after update

Pretty soon we're gonna need a separate forum for all the camera complaint threads.

Re: Camera not improved after update

No that's just the major thing they pick to complain about with Samsung. For the note 10 it was the headphone jack. Based on this forum it seems like a lot of people are returning, but in the real world most are enjoying the phone. If it wasn't the camera it would be something else trust.
It seems like that’s all people use smartphones for anymore.
