Re: Camera not improved after update

When a phone costs $1400 and has a supposed camera upgrade as the main selling point but doesn't perform as good as the previous generations at a cheaper price in certain situations then all the chatter is well deserved. If I want to take a close up pic with the S20 ultra it doesn't want to focus. Same pic with my S10 and it focuses instantly and provides a perfectly clear picture. What other usable features in the new smartphone justifies the cost? I sure don't feel a speed difference. Web pages still look the same. YouTube still looks the same. Everything else runs the same. There's really nothing in it other than the camera. BTW, I got the S10 on release day and the camera worked perfect right out of the box and was a definite upgrade over my previous phone.

Nothing justifies the cost.

Re: Camera not improved after update

I hope, but I doubt that Samsung is magically going to fix camera issues in some monthly update that it didnt fix in many years. They will touch up a few things here and there, improve that focusing issue and call it a day. That's what I think.
As far as Pixel, sure it had issues, but camera quality has stayed pretty consistent since like Pixel 2. It seems Google is the only company that got it right for some reason. And I am not talking about user preferences, there are many instances were even N10/S10 produce images that are simply not usable.
Pixel has other issues that Google fails to address, and that's the reason I switched to Samsung. But its been ridiculous that i have to grab Pixel 4 (or Pixel 2 or 3, results would be similar) to take pictures because I know for a fact that my Note 10 can't do them. That's why I want to upgrade to S20....so far it's been hit or miss, some clear improvements over N10 and yet still not as good as Pixel. Debating if S20 is worth $300 bucks at this point. Samsung sure has killer tradein program and free accessories are nice, and my addiction to new cellphones doesnt help either

This is how I feel about my S20+, in April now and I have had zero updates at all letalone one for the camera. I am back on 4XL as I just cannot trust the camera on the S20. I am waiitng on the update to see if things improve. Right now I am tempted to sell it and pick up a P30 Pro.

Re: Camera not improved after update

I have Sprint and just picked up the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and just had one update and it was for the April security update none for the camera. But I plan on keeping this phone and do an early trade in for the new note in the fall!

Just got 10.0.02.7 update. Does anyone know what it does specifically? I really hate these obtuse and vague patch notes the phone devs release. The need to take a page out of the fighting game community and post patch notes that actually point specifically to what's been changed/buffed/nerfed.

Ex:
Camera shutter speed increased 2f
Night mode has been buffed with 5 minute long exposure timer
Auto focus has been buffed overall, increasing speed to a half-second

I mean, what does "made improvements to overall camera experience" really mean? How? What about the experience has changed?

Here is a comparison video with before and after the April update along with comparing with iPhone 11 pro.

Definite improvement but this video really illustrates how far behind the iPhone and other devices the Ultra camera is. I'm back on the Pixel 4XL now and honestly I'm content. Its nice to have that display and the 16gb of RAM and 512gb storage but the consistency and reliability of the Pixel wins for me in the end. Probably going to throw the Ultra on Swappa. I still have a S20+ and will keep it for my work line. I find it to be a better overall experience than the Ultra.

Having both the S20 Ultra and the S20+ just wondering what were you're impressions with the camera system between the two?? Did you notice the Ultra at least considerably better than the +?? Not keeping the Ultra over the 20+ for your work phone??

I'm still going to hold onto mine and just go with my 3XL for pictures and video (at least until I stop getting full resolution uploads on Google photos).

What honestly bugs me about this whole thing is the the l sense of entitlement and laziness that comes with technology. I mean, I get it, it says AUTOfocus, but sometimes, just sometimes, all you've got to do is tap the screen with the finger you're already going to tap it with when you press the shutter. I mean, yeah, the problem goes further than that, but sometimes, just sometimes, the solution is just a tap away...but people act like they shouldn't have to, couldn't be bothered, or can't do it out of principle.

Actually I find the S20+ to be a better overall all purpose camera. It doesn't suffer from the focus issues the Ultra does and I also just enjoy using it more. While the Ultra display is phenomenal and a joy to consume media on a phone that big is just not practical for me in every day use. I'm a big man with huge hands and I find it to be a little too big for comfort. The S20+ is the perfect size device imo. I'll hold onto it and see what the Note 20 has in store.

I don't think it has anything to do with laziness or entitlement. When you are trying to take pics of moving kids, pets, or other objects tapping to focus does not really solve the issue. Same goes for video, it doesn't change how you can see it focus hunting in the video when you tap to focus. It's sad that people go to great lengths to defend these shortcomings. This is a previous device with a premium price and these issues should not be present. If you are happy with it, that's great but those who expect more from the device aren't lazy or entitled because we expect it to function at least as good as it's predecessor. Never had these issues on my S10+ or Note 10+. I really want to like the Ultra but I just don't see the issues getting fixed completely.
