Re: Camera not improved after update

Yeah it's the same for every new smartphone. There's always a couple hit button issues. The camera is important to me too I just realize it's still part of a cell phone which is also a mini computer. Got to have realistic expectations. Granted Samsung could leave out a bell or whistle to make room and save money. Spend some of those resources on software development. Maybe by the s100 we'll have the perfect Samsung phone.

That's what I've been saying. It has to be the software so fix it Samsung!

People can always choose I-Phone pro max if they think the ultra's camera is not "up to par" but they won't have the 108MP and details the ultra provides - or the 40MP selfie camera, an impressive night mode, or the 8k video, or the best super steady stabilization, or the cool single shot option, or rhe best zoom lens on any phone on the market "up to 30x". You have options out there.

What's the point of all those features if the picture quality is lacking?

Imo since i had the phone - quality is great. I have seen a good deal of reviews that have been very positive about the camera. . The only thing that i think should improve is the face softness on the back camera (selfie camera is fine). Hopefully the upcoming update will improve the software. We'll see.

Re: Camera not improved after update

not the best looking dude but here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. one of these was taken with the Samsung s 20 ultra factory camera and the one with a warmer tone is taken with the gcam mod installed... Clearly no facial smoothing. I earned every one of those wrinkles let me see em...
And all this time I thought you were the guy in your avatar

Is the quality lacking though? I've seen so many conflicting opinions. None of the people who's opinion I trust have complained about the camera. And I've seen some amazing shots online.

I'm sure there need to be software improvements, but that happens with almost every smartphone release... even the Pixel.

See that's the part no one wants to talk about. They want to tout the pixel 4 cameras as the industry standard. Just did a google search and can't believe how many updates they had to address camera issues. I knew there were a couple but didn't know there were that many especially right after release. Let's not forget the mic issue when recording. Funny how we easily forget previous devices mishaps.

Lol that's not a fair assessment. Having both the S10 and Note 10 there have been improvement and software tweaks to come along with update. Granted none of them have been so heavily focused the way the supposed S20 camera update is said to be. Can't wait until we get this update because I'm tired of hearing about the S20 camera being talked about as if it were on a Polaroid quality level.
Well Note10/S10 camera hasn't improved with software updates, why would S20?

Re: Camera not improved after update

I hope, but I doubt that Samsung is magically going to fix camera issues in some monthly update that it didnt fix in many years. They will touch up a few things here and there, improve that focusing issue and call it a day. That's what I think.
As far as Pixel, sure it had issues, but camera quality has stayed pretty consistent since like Pixel 2. It seems Google is the only company that got it right for some reason. And I am not talking about user preferences, there are many instances were even N10/S10 produce images that are simply not usable.
Pixel has other issues that Google fails to address, and that's the reason I switched to Samsung. But its been ridiculous that i have to grab Pixel 4 (or Pixel 2 or 3, results would be similar) to take pictures because I know for a fact that my Note 10 can't do them. That's why I want to upgrade to S20....so far it's been hit or miss, some clear improvements over N10 and yet still not as good as Pixel. Debating if S20 is worth $300 bucks at this point. Samsung sure has killer tradein program and free accessories are nice, and my addiction to new cellphones doesnt help either

Re: Camera not improved after update

I get the feeling Samsung is okay with their lackluster photo quality. It's the biggest crock of crap I've ever seen. They have what seems to be the best hardware. I remember for the s9 they said camera reimagined or redesigned. It was a big bunch of garbage. Dual aperture that really didn't do much at all. Facial smoothing has been an issue on the Galaxy series since it's inception. Why the heck would they fix it now? It's almost like they like their smoothed over images. It's really interesting because when the front-facing camera on a Samsung does not recognize your face as a face it makes pretty good detail in the photo. However as soon as it recognizes your face as being a face it smooths the hell out of it making a mess of the photo. If you wanted to take a picture of a pimple on your face or an ingrown hair with the front-facing camera you would not be able to do so on a Samsung device because it will smooth the heck out of your photo...same with the rear facing camera on a Samsung as soon as it recognizes a face it messes up the photo making you look like an oil painting. That's not art Samsung. My face is art give it to me as I see it in the mirror. Not as you want to see my face.wtf

Your thread title is misleading. There hasn't been a camera update for the S20 models yet. They are releasing one soon. Not sure if it will fix what is wrong or ...we will see.
True the camera struggles with some things like movement. But it is still a great camera.

Re: Camera not improved after update

It seems like that’s all people use smartphones for anymore.

When a phone costs $1400 and has a supposed camera upgrade as the main selling point but doesn't perform as good as the previous generations at a cheaper price in certain situations then all the chatter is well deserved. If I want to take a close up pic with the S20 ultra it doesn't want to focus. Same pic with my S10 and it focuses instantly and provides a perfectly clear picture. What other usable features in the new smartphone justifies the cost? I sure don't feel a speed difference. Web pages still look the same. YouTube still looks the same. Everything else runs the same. There's really nothing in it other than the camera. BTW, I got the S10 on release day and the camera worked perfect right out of the box and was a definite upgrade over my previous phone.👌

Re: Camera not improved after update

Well... if you look at the Samsung site and check out their page for the S20, they do kinda sorta emphasize the camera.. just a little...

I think they mention some of the other features like 5G about 15 pages down?.

As they should. They're trying to make money and compete with Apple and Huawei. What are people talking about with those phones? The cameras.
