MMS Issues

I'm having an odd MMS issue. I've tried four different messaging apps, including the stock app, and they all had issues. So it seems to either be with the G4 or with T-Mobile. I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything similar on their G4, or has ideas for troubleshooting.

In both the stock Messaging app and Google Messenger, I occasionally get an MMS with a Download icon. If I tap the icon, nothing happens (Google Messenger at least tells me it's unable to download and to try again). Size is about 2kb, so it's not too big. In Textra and Handcent, both apps occasionally pop up a notification that says "Can't get MMS" and tells me to check my APN settings. Those apps don't show me the bad MMS like the other two apps, just the error.

In case it's relevant, it seems to be specific to emails sent to text (from a monitoring system, Zabbix, used at work). I receive most of the messages just fine, but a few randomly have that error, so it's not all emails to text that are failing. I haven't seen the issue with texts from other phones yet.

My APN settings:
Name: T-MOBILE LTE
APN: fast . t-mobile . com (formatting due to my low post count, can't post links)
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
MMSC: http :// mms . msg . eng . t-mobile . com / mms / wapenc
MMS proxy: Not set
MMS port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv6

What I've tried so far, based on some google searching:
Set the MMS port to 80. Set username to "None" rather than leaving it blank. Changed APN Protocol to IPv4 and IPv4/IPv6.

None of those have had any effect. Are others seeing this on the G4, and has anyone found a way to resolve it?

Re: MMS Issues

I had this issue coming from a Note II. Mine was solve by having tmo provision a new sim. Mine was doing it and my girlfriends wasn't both with exactly the same settings.
EDIT: Sorry I read further into your issue and yours seems a bit more involved but you never know a newly provisioned sim may help.

Re: MMS Issues

Thanks for the tip, I'll go in and see if I can get a new one to try.

Re: MMS Issues

No problem with mine, I use Textra and with Verizon.

I'm having the same issue with my T-Mobile LG4... Did the new SIM card help? I tried that a week or so ago, as realized that I had just transferred my SIM card from the Galaxy S5 and decided to set up the new one, which didn't help. I notice it a lot when I am a part of group texts with friends and sometimes its photos and sometimes texts that don't come through. No matter how many times I click download, it doesn't work. I went to T-Mobile last week and they changed some settings and honestly had no clue what the issue was; this didn't help and still dealing with it. What really sucks is that I like the phone a lot, except for this one issue. Please let me know if you figured it out. Thanks.

Re: MMS Issues

The ones having problems, does that happen when on WiFi or all the time? I have had add issues in the past the at had to do with WiFi. Just a thought.

Re: MMS Issues

I have had issues on my G3 receiving texts, and a friend with the G3 has had group text issues. I've tried everything to resolve with no solution. Besides the texting issue, I love the phone but I'm afraid this is is my first and last LG phone.

New SIM didn't resolve my issue with the G3...

Re: MMS Issues

I am experiencing the same problems, ever since I got my g4 my mms have not been downloading I'm going into the store tomorrow to see if it's the Sim or phone question for you guys what phone did you have before coming to the G4 I had an iPhone I'm just seeing if that's a factor

Re: MMS Issues

Here is the link to my APN thread. Feel free to post APN settings that work for you on there!

Screenshots of my T-Mobile APN settings. Note that I am in Corpus Christi, Texas if that makes a difference. No problems at all receiving texts or MMS. I am guessing that if your APN is correct, it's your SIM card that is the culprit.

My wife has been having this issue since getting the G4 also. I have it occasionally but she has it much more frequently. She's using the SIM that came in the box since the one from her old phone was a different size. We currently have a ticket open with T-Mobile so we'll see if anything comes of that.

I've also checked her APN settings and they're exactly the same as mine. T-Mobile even did something on their end to reset them.

I also came from an iPhone.

I haven't gone and got a new SIM yet (new baby just arrived, so I've been quite distracted). My issue hasn't changed from my original post. It still only affects messages sent from one source, which is a system that sends me texts via email. I haven't had any issues with texts from other phones, including group messages.

If you did come from an iPhone, turning off iMessage on the iPhone didn't seem to fully remove me from their system. I went in and also removed my phone using Apple's website. I can't post links yet, so if you want to try that just Google "deregister imessage" and take the first link to Apple's site. That obviously didn't resolve my overall issue, but it seemed to help other iPhone users be able to text me.

Re: MMS Issues

Anyone have any updates regarding this? T-Mobile is now having me get another SIM card. I'm not too optimistic. The problem is annoying. I wonder why some phones seem to be more prevalent with this issue than others.

Re: MMS Issues

I've had an issues occasionally receiving replies to group messages. I get the download icon but in the individual text from someone replying to a group message.I have a brand new T-Mobile sim coming from a WP. The issues happen with replies from an iPhone and a Note4.

I just downloaded textra to see if that will make a difference.

Exact same symptoms here. And the same two phones are also in my group. Hmmmmmm I wonder if there's something to that.

Re: MMS Issues

Have your iPhone users delete the threads with you in it...that's a possible help

Well that's annoying that this seems to be an LG thing. If I wasn't outside of my return period I'd definitely consider it. Just too many little annoyances with this phone.

Re: MMS Issues

The iPhone issue has nothing to do with lg......there is also an iPhone tool to delete account if you don't have iPhone any longer.
Also, after 21 days it deletes that imessage account anyway
