Can I delete stuff like TeleNav, Media Hub, Sprint Football and NASCAR from EL30-Stock-Root-Deodexed.zip before flashing it?

Will that screw things up or will it do nice things like stop TeleNav, Media Hub, Sprint Football and NASCAR from showing as "not installed" when they're not even on the phone?

U can, but its a process. U have to find out the process from the epic 4g forum at xda developers

Just open the zip with winzip or 7zip and remove those apk's from system/app/.

The ones you listed should be safe to remove.

So if I do that, will they NOT show up under Not Installed in My Apps?

I'm still looking for a way to get rid of that annoyance. If it's not on the phone, it shouldn't show up *anywhere*.

I was able to use Titanium Backup to remove all Market links then replace the ones for apps that are actually installed, which stopped Market from constantly notifying me of updates for the shovelware I'd removed after rooting, but there they still are under My Apps.

The rest of the shovelware I deleted went quietly and apparently completely, it's just those four that have left something behind.

You should be able to take ES File Explorer and navigate to /system/app/ and locate and delete those 4 apps. They should be easy to find because file explorer will show a icon for each app making those easy to locate in the list. Other wise Google those apps to get the proper file name to locate them

How many times do I have to explain that those four apps are not on the phone?

The problem is they still show up under NOT INSTALLED in My Apps and to stop Market from constantly attempting to install updates for them I had to use Titanium Backup to remove ALL Market links then re-create them one at a time for all my apps *except for those four*. (Titanium Backup needs a feature added to be able to *selectively* delete Market links.)

One of the main points of an open source operating system is so users can NOT have things they do not want.

I DO NOT WANT THOSE FOUR APPS SHOWING UP UNDER NOT INSTALLED! I want ALL traces of them gone and I'm tired of people telling me to "just ignore it".

With all the things Android developers and hackers so I'm surprised that nobody has come up with a fix for this problem.

Wouldn't it annoy you if you removed a program from Windows or OS X or Linux but a shortcut or some other link to it stuck around, resisted all attempts to remove it and the OS kept trying to download updates for the program - and everyone you asked about how to fix the problem just shrugged their shoulders and said "Oh well, ignore it. Why are you making such a big deal?"

So please, someone put on your Android hacking hat and help figure out how to completely remove these Sprint shovelware apps so they are GONE, nevermore to see any trace of them. Doesn't it present some sort of a challenge why deleting Sprint TV's APK completely gets rid of it but doing the same for Sprint Football, NASCAR, TeleNav and Media Hub doesn't?

Just ignore them :D

Edit: I only did that because you are being extremely rude to people who are taking time out of their day to help you out. Take a moment, breath and then you might realize that if the app isn't on the phone it's got to be an issue with the market.. right?

You're welcome!

Forgive me for not understanding I guess but if your device is searching or trying to update those apps then they had to be there at some point in your installation. Nascar and Sprint football are completely stand alone apk's. They are not integrated or related to the OS one bit and can be uninstalled or installed at any time without leaving traces behind. Navigator and media are a bit integrated but again should remove cleanly without leaving traces behind.

Only thing I can guess is have you restored some data or something with titanium or my back up that is causing the device to find traces of these programs?

If they aren't in the ROM zip from the start then that would be the only way I can see you introducing a some sort of traces of these programs into your device is through a restore after flashing the ROM.

Those four apps are part of the standard package on the Sprint Epic 4G. I removed them with the SDX Stock App Remover.

When I updated to Gingerbread, those apps got put back so I removed them again. The EL30 update put them back in again. This time I took them out using Root Explorer.

Every time those four apps have gone to Not Installed in My Apps instead of vanishing completely when their APKs are deleted.

Somewhere on the phone there must be something left behind for those four apps that Market is seeing as the app being there but not installed.

Right now I'm trying to find out how to get the new Google Play (do marketing people ever ask "Do you think this thing our company is about to do sounds stupid?") store/market/whatever so I can download an app with a creatively mis-spelled name which the Market app insists on "correcting" for me and not finding.

What would be nice is if the Google Play (stupid stupid name) update fixes this "not installed" bug.

From the way I understand it even once you remove the application it is still going to remain in your Market app list as NOT INSTALLED. I'm guessing because it was installed its leaving its footprint behind even after removing it. Since its not installed there shouldn't be anything else going on concerning those apps other than being in that list. The Market wouldn't be triggering to update it or anything of that nature. I confirmed this by uninstalling apps on my phone, it removes them and then they are placed under " Not Installed".

There is nothing you can do about this, its left as a footprint showing that you had it installed at some point in the event that you would like to reinstall it. Thats my best guess.

The only work around to this would be to install a custom ROM and pull what you don't want out of the ROM zip before flashing it.

Sounds like something cooked up amongst Sprint, Google and whomever makes those four apps so that no matter what the user does with a Sprint Android phone you'll be stuck with a reminder of them.

Annoying, very annoying. It is *my phone*, not Google's.

Its not Sprint or Google cooking anything up, any application that gets installed on your device no matter how its uninstalled via OS uninstall or using SDX App or File Explorer it will be shown as Not Installed on your list. I think Google does this purposely as I stated so you can find it on your list and reinstall it at a later date if you choose.

Seriously, install any app from the Market then uninstall it... You will see it in your Not Installed list on the Market. Same applies for bloatware/etc.

So your raging about four apps showing up in your Market "Not Installed" list? Talk about being petty.

I can't wrap my mind around it either. I don't see the point of being so upset about something this petty and blasting the forums about it for two weeks...

Get over it already.

Nope, I've uninstalled many apps and only those four have done that.

i had the same issue that android market kept trying to update those apps when i first installed CM7. i never downloaded the apps but market still sent daily reminders to install them. now im using CM9 and whatever the issue was it seems to have disappeared.

I think if you pull them out of the ROM before you flash it, and then don't go restoring data from a preious install, they shouldn't show up any more. I have no issues with them showing as not installed, and the only one I have is TeleNav.

So let me get this straight. You're basically telling a mod, who's been a member a whole year longer than you and probably knows a whole heck of lot more than you about Android, that he's wrong? On top of that, you telling the 10 or so people who have replied in this thread that we're wrong as well about a general thing thats been around for well over a year? Someone's lying here and it surely can't be us...

Titanium Backup needs a feature added to be able to *selectively* delete Market links.
Ummm... Titanium Backup has had this feature for many many months if you would take just a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the app or look through their Wiki. Upon opening the app, just go to the "Backup/Restore" tab at the top of the screen, navigate to the app you want to unlink, long press on that app, and select "Detach from Market". Do you really think TB would have a batch "unlink from Market" before they'd have it on an app by app basis?

It's too bad you haven't gotten the point after all this time. We're all pretty much trying to say that you can't change this, no matter how much crying and b*tching you make. This "problem" you are having is nothing more than the way Google has set up the Market/Play Store. Let me explain why.
I currently have a rooted Samsung Moment on 2.2. My mother has an Epic 4G. Occasionally, I've installed apps on her phone to test out because my phone is incapable of running them. I've got tons of apps showing up on my Moment that I've never installed on it, because I've installed them on her Epic. Even the system apps for her phone that have updates show up on my phone, even though I've never downloaded them and am pretty much incapable of running them on my lowly Moment. I've scrolled to the bottom of the "All" list under My Apps, and every single app that I've downloaded (free, paid, or system installed) since I got my Moment is on that list, even if I kept them installed for only a few minutes. It's not a "bug" or a "problem" that needs fixing, nor can it be circumvented through "hackery" or tweaking of system files. It's a feature, and it's controlled on Google's end, not yours/ours. Live with it or get an iPhone.
