Can I remove stuff from a ROM zip before flashing?

I'm pretty sure these apps show up in Not Installed because they're in a database connected with your Google account. Try uninstalling a paid app and I think you'll see the same thing.

This is the same mechanism that allows you to move to a new phone or tablet and reinstall your paid apps without buying them again. I don't think you really want to lose that feature.

As far as your carrier is concerned, those are paid apps. They're not free to all, and the only way you can get them back if you change your mind is if Google knows you have already "paid for them".

There's been a Play Store update recently that has removed everything under Not Installed. There are no apps showing in My Apps that are not actually on my phone.

No app that I've ever unininstalled through the normal method has stayed showing anywhere in My Apps. That is my experience with my phone. If you have every app that's ever been on your phone listed in My Apps, that's your experience on your phone. (Personally, I'd find that even more annoying than when my phone insisted on constantly pestering me to update those four shovelware apps I'd removed.)

Now what that latest update has done is picked up a couple of apps I side loaded. Even though I've unchecked automatic updating, and with Titanium Backup detached them from the market, I still get update notifications on them.

Before I used destroy all market links in Titanium Backup, I tried the long press and detach from Market. It did not remove/hide it from My Apps and didn't stop the update notices.

What did work (except for those four shovelware apps from Sprint, which are finally gone from My Apps) was using Titanium Backup's destroy all market links then selecting only the ones I'd downloaded from Market, skipping the ones I'd downloaded through Amazon's Appstore.

It looks to me as though "detaching" an app from the Market is not the same thing as "destroying" its link to Market. Destroy the link and in most cases the app is 'invisible' to Market. So unless there's a way to *destroy* a single app link, looks like I'll have to wipe the lot and use Titanium to rebuild them all again to stop the update notices on two apps I don't want to update.

So now I'm happy that someone, somewhere, fixed the Market to be smart enough to see that those four apps are not on the phone and don't need updating.

I've been using and fixing computers nearly 30 years, seen just about every dumb and annoying thing that can be done to and with them. Never ceases to amaze me how people can rationalize and defend problems with software instead of just fixing them.

Because it's not a "problem". It's something "you" didn't like so you needed to go and do the super friggin whiney thing about it.

1. Again, not only are you wrong about Titanium Backup, but you would know you're wrong if you read the dialogs that pop up. From the main screen, upon hitting menu, selecting "Market Tools", and then "Destroy all Market links", you are presented with a dialog that reads "This will detach (emphasis mine) all apps from the Market in one shot, by destroying all Market links." So really all you've just done is proved that you have no idea what you're talking about, because if you actually had gone through the motions, you *should've* read that little bit. Even going through the "Batch" menu under the "Android Market" section it says "Detach user & system apps from the Market", making no mention of "destroying" the links. So basically in this case, "destroy" is synonymous with "detach".
2. You say you've "been using and fixing computers nearly 30 years". Would it kill you to put the actual question you're attempting to ask in the thread title and/or OP? The title asks one question, the OP asks another, but what you're really asking is something entirely different from either of the first 2. And youhave the gall to basically call us morons for not getting what you're asking, when you didn't even ask the question you wanted answered in the first place? Not only that, but when we all give you the same basic answer, you then tell us we're wrong? Good god, learn some respect. We're trying to tell you how it is, how it's pretty much always been, and you whine and complain to us (instead of the people who are actually responsible for this i.e. Google) because you don't like it the way it is. Yeah, you've totally grown up.
3. What you also don't seem to realize is that detaching Market links has been pretty much hit or miss since it was updated to the "Play Store". the developer(s) of TB even said as much in one of their releases since the update. For instance, according to TB, I've got Pandora detached from the Market as the latest update wouldn't work on my phone, but when I go into the Play Store, it's still showing up as a manual update right there at the top. It's been that way for the past several weeks. I'm not the least bit complaining about this because I understand that it's because of the way the new Play store is set up and TB has yet to figure it out (if it isn't already).
In fact, I'll be generous and just give you the information you need. The following is a piece of the changelog from TB version 4.8.4.1:"Added support for Google Play Store 3.5.15. Please note that Play Store is capricious with Market links because it relies more on Google’s servers than before. If you want more control we encourage you to ask Google. Remember: it’s their app. Let them know the legitimate goal you want to achieve (eg: simply detach an app that you purchased on a different app store) and ask them how the heck you’re supposed to do it. Once they provide a solution, we’ll strive to give you full control of it!"

I'm 21 years old and you're at least 40 and yet you're the one complaining about such a tiny minuscule thing? As others have pretty much stated, how mature of you.

Just open the zip with winzip or 7zip and remove those apk's from system/app/.

The ones you listed should be safe to remove.

sorry for reviving an old thread. I'm interrested in doing this for some files I need to restore (which were removed by mistake while removing bloat), I would like to remove the whole ROM expect those files and dirty flash. Can I just remove with 7zip or does the zip then have to be signed?
