can i reset my lock screen password?

while i was messing around with my messaging settings i created a new password so that i could customize the lock screen notifications. now i cant get into my phone because i forgot my new password. i really dont want to factory reset my phone because i have of ton of pictures on my phone that are really important to me. Please please please help.

i reposted my question because i dont have an account and im not sure how to respond to messages. but it isnt giving me a screen to put in my google account information. it only tells me how many attempts i have after 5 more. and if it helps i have a galaxy s4 with verizon

Log in to Android Device Manager on a PC or laptop, using your Google account details, and try resetting the password from there.

1. Turn off your phone
2. Press 3 buttons together (Power button + volume down + Menu button)
3. Do not leave until the phone will turned on
4. Now it shows recovery mode
5. Choose "wipe data / factory reset" from the list (move with camera up/down buttons)
6. Confirm it with choosing Yes button
It will be restarted, Now everything is clear just like brought a new phone

I don't think the user wants to wipe their phone, they just need to bypass the password or PIN.
