Can I Ungroup and Convert My Library Icons? (16 GB Nexus 7)

Hello, everyone.

I am a brand new Nexus 7 owner. I've been reading a lot of documentation about the tablet, including the guide book that comes with the Nexus in the Books section.

There is one thing I'm having trouble figuring out, and am requesting assistance with it, please.

On the home screen, the first thing I see it My Library. I then scroll left and see a Recommended on Play item, and a Recommended Apps icon. Below them are icons for the various apps I've installed.

My question is about the My Library section. It has four icons:

1. A movie (Transformers)
2. The Nexus 7 Guidebook
3. A Jason Bourne novel
4. A magazine

Is there any way to convert these icons into smaller icons, similar to the icons for apps? Also, they seem to be grouped together. If I want to delete one of these four icons, I can't. Can they be ungrouped?

Also, is there a way to remove these icons from the home screen WITHOUT actually deleting the content? For example, I accidentally deleted the whole group from the home screen when I first began playing with the Nexus. It looked like I deleted that material from the tablet completely, and couldn't figure out how to get it back, so I just factory reset the Nexus and they returned. I don't want that to happen again.

I have questions about Widgets, as well, but I'll save them for another time. Thank you for your assistance! Jd

Your best bet is to add the 'My Library' widget and select the type of content you want to see.

Late reply, but a widget is something like, saying, having the current weather on your home screen. As opposed to its app, which would only be a shortcut to open it up.

It is a big, big battery-drainer.

Go to widget page, example-- look for book widget, select it, then select book. That puts book shortcut on desktop

Widgets aren't that much of a battery drain tbh. I've had plenty of rogue apps on my phone that drain far more without widgets, and that includes very popular stuff like Facebook, Tapatalk and Groupon.

It's not that much of an issue on a tablet though, it's when they're doing that on a 3g connection that it really sucks power.

I'm still trying to figure out what the heck a widget IS ! I'm new to this, obviously.

I'm just about to post some "tips" videos to YouTube, and one will probably help you. Stand by.... But to answer your original question, yes you can create some shortcuts on the home screen for some Play items.

[Edit] SOME. You can put a Music playlist on the desktop, a scrolling Books widget, and customized My Library widgets of most any size you can imagine. Apparently they haven't created widgets for every aisle of the Play Store.

Here's my video.

See my other tutorial on the online documentation they forgot to install to see how you can create a shortcut for one book, or use the scrolling Books widget (fixed size).
