Can sprint activate the 32gb nexus 5?

I've been seeing online some people mentioning Sprint refusing to activate their Nexus 5s if they don't sign a 2-year contract. What's up with that?? Is that true??? Currently, I'm still under contract (my dad's account) as I have an LG Optimus G but wanted the Nexus 5. Is Sprint going to refuse me or is this even true???

They should not do that. Anyway, if you already have a phone and contract with them you shouldn't have any problems.:cool:

This is a picture from internal Sprint systems. Sprint officially says only that they will activate Nexus 5 phones bought from Google play. No sizes or other information was given.

The image is accurate, and verified.

I trust you, Jerry. It's just that a lot of Sprint Stores seem to have fools working in them.

No wonder I can't get a SIM from Sprint, this guy has them all and is selling them on eBay.

Just go into a Sprint store and try to get one from them, it should be free.:cool:

So is Sprint making you guys sign a 2 year agreement to sign up with them? The told me that the Nexus 5 can not be under the no contract plans because of the SKU.

I've called every Sprint store in the area, nobody has them right now. I do plan on bugging them until they do though, I need the SIM to properly evaluate the phone or it will have to go back.

If it's a corporate repair store, odds are they have them and just don't know it. Have them check stock by looking up the SKU 760492013536. For some reason they think the Nexus has a "special sim" when it's the same as the HTC One or the Galaxy S4.

There is evidence of this on the Sprint forums (you may have to have an account to view this): https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/138586?start=0&tstart=0

The relevant quote from the Sprint employee is as follows:

"Thank you for the post. This is a great question. Unfortunately, the Nexus 5 will not be available for the Sprint As You Go plans. It will need to be on either the Unlimited, My Way or My All-In plan which does require a 2 yr contract. To clarify, if you are a new customer, you will have the contract based on the plan but your upgrade eligibility will not be effected. If you are a current customer, neither your contract nor your upgrade eligibility will be effected if you purchase the Nexus 5 from the Google Play Store and activate it on your account. In both instances, there will be an activation fee of $36.

I hope this clears things up for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I'll try again when I get a chance, I tried not to mention it being for a Nexus 5 when I called but I hadn't given any of them the SKU.

I just replied to this to ask if a SERO Premium plan was eligible for a Play Store purchase of a 32GB Nexus 5 to be activiated on - at the community.sprint.com post .

First Samsung got all the US carriers to carry the same model phones...unlike the original Galaxy release - now we have non-branded Sprint phones for activation , very Cool !

Now I can upgrade without paying $450 to $700 for a unsubsidized new phone or CL roll of the dice & keep my contract renewal upgrade in reserve to be used in lieu of insurance for a broken lost or stolen phone replacement.

You can, I am on SERO Premium and activated my 32gb Nexus 5 purchased from the Play Store. I am still out of contract and have my upgrade eligibility.

I didn't think there would've been an issue since I was still under contract. Just wanted to ask some of the forum vets.

Hmm... Although it really just seems like typical launch kerfuffles, Sprint seems to be putting out conflicting information regarding Nexus 5 activations. In another article I read elsewhere, two Sprint reps gave totally conflicting info about it. I just hope Google doesn't look at this and decides to pull the Nexus line from Sprint. (Guess I'm just a lil nervous since I'm on Sprint w/my family and the other CDMA Verizon got the axe.)

I have my 32gb nexus 5 up and running today. I got it yesterday and had to use it on WiFi only for a day. I had contacted Sprint through web chat and ordered a Sim card. I paid to have it shipped over night.

Once it came in today I logged onto my Sprint account and went through the process to activate it. Everything went smooth with no problems.

The Rep asked if I wanted to put Sprint protection plan on the phone and I said yes. I have read that you could not do this with a 32gb model. I told him my concern and he checked on it for me. He came back and said it should be activated within 24 hours.

One of my friends also was told the same thing. Like a poster said, there's plenty of contradicting info from within Sprint itself! :banghead::D

Does anyone have the number to the international division that they have had success getting a SIM card? I've tried a couple of numbers but they always circle back to the regular customer service.

Sprint activated my 32 GB black nexus today. It had to update before the activation worked, but it's working freaking awesome now

Find a local Sprint repair shop... I walked into the Sprint store a few blocks from my house and they had plenty of cards

That's harsh (and likely true, but still harsh lol). I've found that most people working in cell phone stores mean well, really want to help you, but don't get the training they need to do their job well from the higher ups.

I've also found that being kind, and having a positive attitude even when they are wrong helps you get exactly what you want :) These problems will sort themselves out in a week or so. Everyone in this thread is the guinea pig for a bunch of people who don't have the facts they need just yet. Try not to hate them for it.
