Cannot get out of kids mode

Son has a Samsung tab A 10.1 with latest android version. We've never set up Samsung kids mode, but he clicked onit today and now cannot exit. It requests a pin, which we've never set up.

I've tried the safe mode reboot, and it shows safe mode in lower left corner, but still displays kid mode and I cannot pull down notification menuti get to settings.

I've tried rebooting holding down power and volume up, then quickly pressing the power key to try to factory reset. It boots up normally.

Someone please help. Any other suggestions? His tablet is basically a brick right now.

Yes, but our kids mode looks different than that, and when i do the safe mode reboot, it brings me to the kids mode screen still, not the home screen, with a note in the bottom left corner stating "Safe Mode"

We've just figured out we can can swipe from the corner to get into the camera and swipe from the other corner to get into google chrome, but still cannot pull down notification bar in either screen.

I finally figured out the factory reset and went that route. thanks.
