I just rooted my optimus s yesterday and spent all day yesterday trying to install a custom recovery. I found a post on here for the thunderc recovery using the android terminal emulator because i don't have a computer. I followed all the steps, typed in exactly what it said to type into the terminal emulator but after i typed "reboot recovery " which was the last step, it rebootes but sets on a blank screen after the LG logo goes away. I re-done it several times but get the same result. Am i not extracting them to the sdcard properly or what? Idk. Please help if you can.

Don't use that recovery, it doesn't support the latest lcd screens. Use the zefie xionia recovery. http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/59359-custom-recovery-xionia-clockwork-cwma-v1-2518-6-a-15.html

Its giving me an error message "error opening /sdcard/xionia_cwma_12518.6.img: No such file or directory. What am I doing wrong? It says this on the step before i type in "reboot recovery"

My guess is either it is not placed on the root of the SD card or you miss typed something. If it persists, you are sure you are doing everything right, try really downloading the file. It could in theory have been corrupted

What do you mean corrupted? Is that fixable?

Corrupted meaning somewhere between the internet and your phone the file changed in someway. I doubt that is the issue. Most likely it was a typo as blackops said.

I think im not extracting them properly or something. Can someone please tell me the steps to extract.
I try to extract them using astro but it gives me the option to "extract to this directory " or "extract to new directory ". I don't know which one to do. I used root explorer to extract them and it made a folder named "extracted" with both files in it. Is that right?

download the files... extract the files... should be .img file

Transfer to the root of your SD card....

Then do the steps...

copy the files out of the "extracted" folder and paste them directly on the sdcard without them being in any folder or anything, then try again
