Can't restore WhatsApp messages in new phone from old phone local backup

[Android Central Question]

I took my WhatsApp's local backup on my old phone and put the same under Internal > WhatsApp > Databases on my new phone. But, WhatsApp doesn't even tries to detect the local backup that I already have on my new device instead it keeps on asking to restore backup from gdrive (in my case I don't have any backup on my gdrive).

It shows a pop up saying " If you previously backed up to Google Drive and want to restore it, give WhatsApp permission to check your Google account for backups", This has to options Skip and Give Permission.

Further on clicking skip, it simply moves ahead to the next step without any restoration. Please help me out.

Reset what app. On the new phone this time tap.accept instead of skip.

@mustang7757 Other than skip..I have the the option to give permission..On clicking that it asks me to choose a gmail account to recover the gdrive backup, which is of no use in my case.

When I set up WhatsApp I choose Gmail account to back up , which way you back yours up ?

Good point I missed mentioned local back up, gdrive been flawless over the years going between device

Yes, I always prefer GDrive backups as well. Restoring chats is easier that way and there's no risk of losing them if your phone is stolen, lost or broken.

Similar problem with restoring local backup

I have similar problem, but mine is same device. It just looking for google account to restore backup from google instead of local backup. Attaching sample screenshot of message
