Just got my Droid X yesterday, and now the bottom half of the screen has gone black.

This appears to be a software issue, as it will occasionally switch to moving black and grey bars, or occasionally actually show me what's there for a brief moment.

I can still interact with that portion of the screen. I've already yoinked the battery and reset with no change. Is there some sort of hard reset I can do or anything?

Wow that sounds like a bad screen- try downloading a screen tester app and see what happens

Mine did this a couple times, id leave an app or widget and it would be black for a few seconds then start working again, it quit doing it now i've been using it for a while, i think it hadn't cached
the screen totally yet

Grabbed the first one in appbrain, went through different color patterns, all it did was shade the dark spot in said color.

....and this issue is happening from the moment it boots. I think I'm stuck with going to the Verizon store with this. If they can't fix it, I'm stuck waiting until the 26th. My brain is now filled with murderthoughts. :-(

OH SNAP! Now it's working again. I have a feeling its somehow tied into the live wallpapers, I changed it to a static one and 30 minutes later we're good to phone. I have a feeling this is temporary though. Maybe this will be something that gets fixed in the OTA update?

Hardware screen issue

After three days of playing around my screen went bad. All I get now is a bunch of flickering. I tried a battery pull and was even able to perform a factory reset, thankfully the menus are basically the same as the incredible and I was able to navigate through. So I am positive that apps are not the cause of my problem. Mine is straight up hard ware. I know that a certain level of risk comes with purchasing a first run electronic like this, but what gets me is the two week waiting period to get it replaced. Oh, well. What can I do? Other than sit around and take videos of my Droid X with my BB Tour...lol

Mine is delivered today...and now I'm really worried I'll get one of those defective ones. <sigh>

This happened to me to! About 3/4 of the screen turned black or had a bunch of colored lines that made the phone inoperable! I verified that it happened after installing a new galaxy live wallpaper! I have fixed it a couple times by holding power and the home screen on boot and waiting around for 5 min then pressing the search button or trying to navigate through the menu that pops up to restore the phone... either way though, after restoring my phone it came back to life. Ill post a couple screen shots of the issue later on today!
