For those still having trouble (and Clear Credentials is grayed), try this:
Go to Settings-->General-->Users and delete any other user profile that you may have activated (be sure to delete Guest if you activated it, but be aware, Guest will always be available and listed, even if it was never activated).
To delete a Users profile, switch to that user, go back to Users settings and choose the delete option. Do this for all but the Owner profile.
Switch back to the Owner profile (if it doesn't switch back automatically); it should be the only one left. Now, if you go into the Lock Screen setting, None should be available as an option.

This happened on my Samsung Galaxy TabPRO SM-T900 12.2" with Android 5.1.1 - your options may be in a different location if you have a different model.
