Android Central Question

Hello,
I so far had phones from Samsung and never had this problem before. Now I got a Xiaomi Note 10 Pro and I can't turn off text underlining. What is happening is that every letter or word I type gets underlined, not in red just normal black underlined, until the word or letter is over and a space is pressed. I have disabled every possible spell checker, word suggester or dictionary possible however it still does this and its very annoying.

Is there any way to get rid of this? It does this in all the apps so its not app specific. If I open the same app on my Samsung this isn't present.

Yeah I changed to Chrooma and its gone so its definetly an undisableable feature of gboard.
On an unrelated not, don't want to start another thread just for this but I do have another question.

I also experienced with this new phone that whenever I try to connect to some public WLAN, where you basically get a browser window first to accept the terms and conditions, and once thats done its connected, now this window I don't always get.

With the Samsung I always get this and can connect but here not always and because of this it falsely shows its connected but theres no connection.

Tried going to the router IP directly but that also doesn't help.

Can this be solved?

Yeah try Swiftkey like i mentioned

Ok I have officially given up and will have to keep using Gboard with this underlining.

I have tried ALL of the keyboards in this article:

https://www.androidcentral.com/best-keyboard-android

None of them work the way it should (like Gboard without underlining).

Swiftkey:

Everything is ok except when pressing keys for accent the first option that comes up is the number (9 for example for 'o', istead of 'ó') even though I have the complete number row over it enabled. Unable to turn this off.

Chrooma:

Same thing as above

Typewise:

There is no backspace button anywhere, also can't find it in options.

Fleksy:

After installing I only get the error message: 'can't open keyboard settings'

OpenBoard:

Getting the numbers instead of accents even with complete number row enabled.

AnySoftKeyboard:

Error: 'Can't open keyboard settings'

GO Keyboard:

Numbers showing first instead of accents even with complete number row enabled

Why can't there be a keyboard that functions like it should???

Samsung keyboard isn't available though I would want to use that.

Sorry i dont know what else to suggest:(

I had this same problem on my pixel 6. Turns out I had disabled the spell checker in the Languages and Input menu but I still had the spell checking enabled in the settings of the Gboard itself.

This is what I did:

- Enable spell checker under System -> Languages and Input -> Tools -> Spell checker (you do this because other wise options in step 2 are greyed out)
- Disable toggles under System -> Languages and Input -> On-screen keyboard -> Gboard -> Text correction -> Spelling and gramma (disable both spell check and grammar check).
- Disable spell checker again under System -> Languages and Input -> Tools -> Spell checker

Text is no longer underlined when typing.

Hope this helps

Wow, this one WORKS!!

Thank you so much.

hey i don't know if you still need this answered but i just got my S22 Ultra and was plagued with the same issue! i fixed it. you need to TURN SPELL CHECK ON. my gboard asked mento set it as my default spell checker. i changed it to my default, then went back into gboard and disabled spell check... presto! fixed! :) hope this helps! i made an account just to answer.

Welcome to AC!
Thanks for your findings

I got it right turning off all settings for spelling and grammar check both on gboard and samsumg keyboard and then turning on, one by one, on gboard, the features I wanted working except ortographic check speciphically. You can turn on grammar context check and it won't underline the text, but once you turn the word(per se) check it underlines what you are writing. Hope you get rid of it, so annoying aesthetically
