Cases and screen protectors?

I have had several of Seidio's products and while they do offer good protection while remaining extremely slim they do have one major flaw. The surface cases allow dirt and dust to get behind the case and it collects in the corners of the case. Over time this dirt and dust will dig into the phone and cause what looks like pitting around all the edges and especially the corners. I have had this problem on 3 different phones (Blackberry Storm, HTC Incredible, and HTC Thunderbolt). This is why I have opted for the OB commuter as it offers a soft case around the phone and protective hard shell around that. The other problem with the Seidio convert and active is that the corners are the ABS plastic instead of the TPU material for shock absorption.

Wait, what? I was asking because the Commuter is smaller than the Defender and is comparable to the Active. The Convert it is more comparable to the Defender in bulk.

While I've never had a Seidio case, I've always thought the Actives look pretty good and was planning on getting a white one for the S3. I did quite a bit of research on comparing the two brands and found that most people that have had both preferred the Otterbox and thought they were better quality. I had a Commuter on an older phone and one thing I've noticed with Otterboxes new releases are they are seemingly even better quality than before. The silicone is sturdier, less rubbery, and doesn't attract lint. They are generally slimmer and fit snugger from what I have seen as well.

I'm sure the Convert is a good case, but I'm guessing everything it does the Defender does better, unless you do NOT want a built in screen protector, or are really against the idea of the silicone being on the outside. Sorry for the rant, just thought I'd give you some advice since I'm still contemplating which case to get as well.

We're on the same boat so no worries :) I'm leaning towards the commuter for your info :D

ABSOLUTELY!!! This is what has turned me off about their products. It happened with my active x on my Epic 4G. I'll try to snap some pictures when I have time to show you guys. The case does protect the phone but as Ultrav23 stated, the dirt/dust that gets in somehow starts to scuff up the edges of the phone. I thought it was sticky goo/dirt when I took of the case but its actually scratches/pitting around the edges. Would this happen to any other cases when not cleaned for some time though???

Hi, some now if we can buy a "sreen" protector for the lens ? The lens is on the phoe, not on the back cover... we can not change it if we have scratch on it ?

Thanks !

That's funny because when chatting with Seidio customer support she said they have never heard of any issue like that. I think having a soft rubber material against the phone is a better idea. I did like how slim the Surface cases were but not worth the risk.

For those thinking of Seidio a screen protector is a must. The phone does move a little in the case and over time the case make marks all around the screen where the case contacts the front of the phone.

Was going to get the surface and an otterbox. Forgot about the convert. Getting the surface for now and the convert later.

Wowwww...those are pretty severe...but I've seen similar horror stories with iPhones being left in defender cases for like a year. Maybe a weekly schedule to clean with a microfiber(?) cloth would remedy these scenarios though...

can anyone comment on the quality of the screen protector that comes with the OB Commuter? Should I upgrade to the SGP Ultra Nano?

Trident is coming out with kraken and Cyclops series later in July... If you look on www.petra.com you can see what it will look like... They had the colored otterbox before they showed up on the actual otter box website...

yea, i just thought they were fake at first (the otter's), since they were trying to tell me they were fake..but still, doesn't make my decision any easier!

any suggestions between those 3? I have an otterbox defender for my Droid X, and I liked it, but just seeing how the other 2 are. Same bulkiness?

My plan too.
The pitting doesn't look good, but surely regular cleaning is good enough to remedy. Loved the otterbox on iPhone 3g, on the iPhone 4-not so much.
Ready to give Seidio a turn.

So, I've gotta ask... With the S III sporting Corning's Gorilla Glass 2, why bother with screen protectors anymore?
