Cases for the Verizon G2

Well, barely 2 weeks later, I am sorry to report that my beautiful white Incipio case has started to discolor (just below the opening for the volume/power buttons and on the sides where my fingers grip the phone). Not happy!

Yeah mines does not look as good anymore either.

Senrekiv - Here's some pics of the Trident Aegis case. Sorry I didn't post them sooner...

I do have to say while I am a big fan of Trident cases, especially the Aegis line, I have since switched over to the Incipio Dual Pro. When I ordered the Trident, I also got the Tudia because it was only $3 at the time. In trying the Tudia for a bit, I really got used to the slimness and realized I wanted something not as bomber. So the Dual Pro ended up being the best compromise between protection and slimness. I do miss the covered ports though!

=> How does the Trident Aegis (LG G2 Verizon) compare to the Ballistic...?

I currently have the Incipio Dual Pro, which I'm pretty happy with.
However, I kind of wonder if it would be better if I had a case with a "higher lip" around the screen.

=> In terms of thickness

Ballistic (thickest?)
Trident Agent (less thick than Ballistic?)
Incipio Dual Pro (thinnest option?)

Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

This is the one I got at Amazon and loving it. My daughter and husband have the same one for their phones.

Has anyone tried the one in the LG website that they pimp there, I think it's a Folio case with a door flap that has a square window that lets you see the upper part of the screen, answer/talk on the phone and see messages without opening the flap? It's made just for this phone I think. I won't use screen savers, and I've never had a snapon plastic case either. I use leather slip cases (Beyza, Sena, Fortte). Thanks.

I hate when people wrap big ole rubber tire cases on sleek phones. I have only found one for this particular phone that keeps its safe without sacrificing its sleek look. it's a thin transparent rubber case . diztronic brand 9 bucks on Amazon. Love it, and phone still looks sexy and original

I am a huge fan of the diztronic cases for this phone. I have the black and white versions...

What screen protectors are you guys using on your G2? I want to get an otterbox defender, but need something until they are available.

I got the ones they sell at the Verizon store. Really shiny, clean looking and fits great. But it seems to scratch fairly easy.

Funny thing is when I first ordered my case (Trident Aegis) I also got the Tudia as a throw in because it was only $2.99 at the time. I have always been about good protection but because the G2 is not the smallest phone to begin with, the phone was just too big w/ the Aegis case. So I got the Incipio DualPro with is also a really nice case which fits perfectly on the phone but it didn't feel right in my hand and is a bit slippery. I now use the Tudia case and love it. Yeah, not the most protection but it just feels right.

I don't plan on switching but that Rugged Guard Case w/ stand posted above looks interesting. It appears to have a bit more protection, good grip yet slim.

That is the one i bought, should be here tomorrow, i loved it on my gnexus as well, was good protection for such a thin case and made it so not slippery and fit well.

Ok, I see this thread has been abandoned for over a week, but hopefully some of y'all are still watching it.

I've read most of this thread, read 100's of descriptions and reviews on Amazon, and I still feel like I'm not finding what I want (perhaps it doesn't exist?!).

So background: I had a Droid X2 for forever. I'm not a gadget person and don't get excited about "the next new thing," so I was reluctant to get a new phone...I don't like change! The X2 was getting worse and worse performance and battery-life wise. In doing some research, VZW's LG G2 sounded like a phone I'd like. I had the Otterbox on my X2 and it was AMAZING. I think it's the first phone I've ever had that I didn't have to do an insurance claim on! People often commented on how big my phone was, but anyone who knows me is aware of the fact that I'm constantly dropping things, tripping, and carry a huge purse full of things that could damaged a phone. The Otterbox made me feel like my phone was safe from ME! I need this kind of security in my life. ;)

So, as I'm planning the purchase of the G2, imagine my surprise with the issues on the Otterbox! I have looked and looked and looked for something similar. I ended up getting the G2 before I could find a case and have been carrying it around like an egg, with all the stickers still on it. I ordered this case: Amazon.com: OEM VERIZON BLACK SHELL CASE BELT CLIP HOLSTER COMBO + STAND FOR LG VS980 VS 980: Cell Phones & Accessories because it had a kickstand, a belt-clip case, and, most importantly, a very clumsy person I know has the same one for their iPhone and they haven't had issues.

I HATE this one after having my awesome Otterbox for so long! In reading "...The holster was molded to fit the phone face-inward to protect the lcd screen...," I naively never imagined they meant it could ONLY face inward. The X2's Otterbox allowed me to turn it screen-in and screen-out whenever necessary. The clip fits VERY snug and it's extremely difficult to pull the phone out of the holster to answer a call. I've missed every call where my phone was being "protected" since I've been using this case. The kickstand is very difficult to use and makes me feel like I'm going to break it, opening or closing. The X2's Otterbox's kickstand WAS the belt clip. Now, I'll admit, I broke it fidgeting with it one day, but I had had the case so long at that point (at least 3/4 of the time I had the phone...which was a LONG time in phone years), I still consider Otterbox tough enough for people like me. The covering for this definitely doesn't feel as sturdy as my Otterbox at all. The volume/power/camera area is pretty exposed and none of the ports are covered. And, as with almost all the cases available for the G2, there's no built-in screen protector. I was told by Verizon Reps and many friends with new phones that the screen protectors are "unnecessary"..."all the new cases are made so the screen doesn't touch a surface when flat-faced on a surface"...Really? I've never had a phone case that allowed the screen to touch a flat surface...I'm concerned about the screen protection when I have to toss the thing into my purse! I peeled the film off the screen when I put it into the case and while I don't feel like the G2's screen gets smudged as easily as the X2 for whatever reason, I'm still a neat freak and I need my screen to be safe, covered, and clean.

Basically, everything I loved about my Otterbox are complete negatives about this case as well as plenty of the other cases I've researched...in fact, receiving this case has made me notice the issues with other cases even more. And, as most of you know, the Otterbox for the VZW version of the G2 is apparently crap!

My question is, what to do?! I'm hoping someone here in all of their testing and trying out cases can give some advice. I'm not the type to order 10 cases and audition them--I want to know what works and stick with it!

What I NEED:
#1 SAFETY
-- Otterbox level safety! Meaning double layer (hard and soft) cover. Port covers. I understand most cases don't do the built-in screen cover, so I'd be willing to compromise if someone has an awesome suggestion for a protector that goes with a cover without pulling at the sides where it would have to be replaced all the time...I'd still prefer built-in if possible, though.
#2 Kickstand -- I really appreciate being able to look at things on the screen with the phone propped up on a surface. I would prefer that the kickstand be attached to a holster.
#3 Holster -- A holster serves two purposes for me personally: an extra layer of protection in the case of drops and something to add bulk (I realize how ridiculous that sounds since most people would like to keep their phone as small as possible). There are several things that float around in my purse that are the same size/weight...the holster case immediately sets my phone apart when blindly reaching in and shuffling things around. I have used the belt clip for it's intended purpose, but safety and feel are more important to me. A holster should allow me to "flip" the phone in the holster...I don't want a holster where the phone can only face "in"...
#4, etc...General User Preferences -- I prefer black for the color. Whatever the outside finish, it should be very "grippy." As little exposed hard plastic on the case as possible...it just seems too easy to break and I don't like the breaking-up of the finish/"feel" of the phone.

I know I sound insanely picky, but the fact is, Otterbox spoiled me. My phone was well-protected and the case and holster really met my needs and preferences. Ignoring the G2's Otterbox as an option, does anyone have any suggestions?! Much thanks in advance!

The correct otterbox just came out for the Verizon version. I wouldn't look at the reviews that are more than a couple of weeks old. They had to create a whole new case for Verizon due to it being slightly different.

I ordered the Otterbox Defender from Verizon's website, and didn't receive the case that was shown on their website. The case has cut-outs for the buttons on the back. It's been days and they haven't responded, I'm pretty upset.

Pics are the non-Verizon version, the one I received (flash is flipped from using a mirror), and the one shown on Verizon's website.

Has anyone received the one shown on their website?

The one you have on your phone is the one pictured on Otterbox's website though. Verizon probably hasn't updated their website to reflect the correct case. I've been considering the otterbox you have there, how do you like it so far? Does the built-in screen protector cause any issues like the ones that have been posted previously about not touching the G2's screen correctly? Thanks.

The case I received is on par with my previous experience with Defenders on an iPhone 4 and RAZR MAXX - it's great. The screen protector works fine, no bowing at all.

I really wanted the rubber covers over the buttons on the back, especially for the raised nub on the power button. Oh well.

I'm with you on that one. I would also like the cover over the buttons, which is why I'm trying to hold out on the Ballistic case - https://www.goballisticcase.com/shop/lg/g2/tough-jacket-maxx/
Their case appears to have covered the buttons, which would be nice. This model appears to be around the same protection level as the Otterbox Defender. They (Ballistic) have also had some issues with the screen protector not activating the touch screen though, it seems. I've opened a customer service ticket with them asking about the touch screen/built-in screen protector issue, but haven't gotten a response from them yet. If anyone has a Ballistic Tough Jacket Maxx that can respond to that, please do!

SERIOUSLY?! If this is true, I will be one happy camper!

It's hard to tell since people sometimes offer their review several weeks after the fact, and also (it seems to me by all the reviews I've read) the timeline makes it look like OB came out with a Verizon version at the beginning of December. People had been ordering the version intended for other carriers before then and posting negative reviews. THEN, the next set of folks who (smartly) waited until a Verizon version of the Defender was available, had negative things to say...and some seemed to find out they had actually been shipped the incorrect version...it's all very confusing to see if there's actually a proper version yet.

I know a lot of people say "pop out the screen protector," but to me that defeats the purpose of this awesome case and besides, it's fairly expensive. I don't want to buy something knowing other people are experiencing aggravating issues.

Is there a link or anything that confirms OB has really fixed the issues?! I.e. that what is being sold now is truly a different version than what people have been receiving since December?

Thank you for the update!

I'd MUCH prefer a version where the buttons are covered, especially as reviews have noted that the cover aids in navigating the "feel" of the different buttons, but it seems the case you received has better coverage for the back of the phone than 95% of the cases out there. I hate what I consider a generic case, where there's that huge cutout.

I would like to know as well about Trident Aegis (LG G2 Verizon) and the Ballistic.

How do you like your incipio dual pro? I do like that buttons are covered.
=> How does the Trident Aegis (LG G2 Verizon) compare to the Ballistic...?

I currently have the Incipio Dual Pro, which I'm pretty happy with.
However, I kind of wonder if it would be better if I had a case with a "higher lip" around the screen.

=> In terms of thickness

Ballistic (thickest?)
Trident Agent (less thick than Ballistic?)
Incipio Dual Pro (thinnest option?)

Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
