[CDMA HERO ROM] Gumbo ROM 1.5c

Ok guys, maybe someone can help with this. I've been running 1.5b w/ kernal. Went to flash 1.5c, everything force closes. Can't even get signal, no bars whatsoever. I obviously am doing something wrong since it's working for every one else. So I flash back to 1.5b and everything works. Any suggestions or maybe even a tutorial for us newbies. Thanks.

Yea, wipe then flash again.

same as the above poster - everything force closes. ive done countless flashes as well with wipes.

I'm loving the speed of Gumbo with just Sense UI added. Thank you!

One question-- I was paranoid that after setting up partitions for apps2sd, I would get all kinds of errors/corruptions when plugging my phone into USB and mounting the sdcard. However, no corruptions/errors so far.... Is it safe to assume that this Gumbo ROM has a built in fix for that potential problem, such that only the proper storage partition on the SD card is mounted for PC access? Or I have just been lucky enough to have anything corrupted yet?

As long as your SD card is partitioned correctly using the recovery menu, everything should work accordingly.

Anyone having an issue with the Wifi tethering? It starts fine and works but when you try to stop it, it just hangs. I've removed the SuperUser permissions and of set them "always allow" for both start and stop but it continues to hang.

I really love the ROM, my phone is so much faster now.
But is there any easy way I could get just the Sprint navigation back... without the Nascar, NFL, and whatever other useless junk Sprint added?

Yes, there is. I've provided you with the Sprint Navigation download only, as you requested.

1. Download the file
2. Unzip it
3. Copy to your SD Card
4. Use any file manager program to install the .apk file (Astro, Andexplorer, etc).

Hope that helps.

Are you running apps from your SD Card? I was having the same problem. I removed the aps2sd and just put my apps back on the phone and it seems to work flawlessly now. :)

I should clarify. I wiped and reformatted my sd card, reflashed without aps2sd, and everything has been working great since.

I was wondering if anyone has looked at this yet. I was going to flash the bare version and then install openhome. What I was wondering is if there is a performance differnence between flashing bare and running openhome versus flashing the full version and just using senseUI? Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Thank you so much! I tried 100 different ways to get Sprint Navigation back, but that actually worked!

Same result can be achieved by moving apps that have issues running from the SD card (maps, usb and wifi tether, streetview, etc) to the /system/app dir. They are off the sd card then.

Yes there is. If you install the Sense UI it loads at boot even if it's turned off. If you're 100% sure you don't want the Sense widgets, just run the bare ROM.

Thanks gbhil, I'll have to try that the next time I'm playing around. Loving the 1.5C. I think the problems I was having (there were others besides the tether) were from running other roms, installing and uninstalling apk's and not fully wiping before going to 1.5C. Loving your work by the way, I would never have dreamt of doing any of the crazy things I've learned to do to my phone if it wasn't for all of your helpfull posts and guides. :D

No I have nothing installed on my SD card. It's odd, the last time I used it, it started and stopped fine. Other times I have to reboot the phone to get it to quit.

I have since installed an app killer because I have another app that hangs all the time. I guess I can just kill it with that now.

Happy to help! Glad it worked. Though, once you get 1.6 and higher, you'll have the ability to get Google Nav, which is far superior in my opinion.:p

I had a ROM that ran 2.1 that had Google navigation, and it seemed like a nice navigation app. But that ROM had a whole bunch of crazy extra apps built in and I just didn't like it very much :(
But if Gbhil makes a ROM running 2.1 that is as good as this one I will definitely download it!
Thanks again! :)

That does happen. But that's why you can use command prompt or whatever linux shell you like and remove (rm) the unwanted extra stuff, which is usually what I do. I'll download the ROM, see what I like and straight away begin deleting stuff, then reboot my phone and begin the customization part of it.

I just installed the Eclair 2.1 ROM -- and while its cool and what not, I'm going to go back to Gumbo 1.5c -- I like the features it has and its speed/smoothness. I got a weekend project ahead of me though -- I plan on creating new icons, and hopefully beginning the process of cooking a new ROM and setting up Ubuntu for all my Android needs -- this is of course, all thanks to Gbhil for his excellent tutorials/walkthroughs that he has posted up!

thank you so much! I downloaded Bare, which i love, but was missing navigator. This is the only sprint app I use.

thanks for the info. I have found that the only htc widget that i use is the bookmark one and I can live without that.
