Changing/adding artist image to Google Play Music...?

So I'm new to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and I have a few artists that I put on my phone using my laptop and a few artists in my library that either don't have an artist picture, or they have an album art as the picture. Is there any way to just add or edit an artist picture? It's really bothering me. (Hope I posted this in the right spot)

Welcome to Android Central! I find that is most easily done on the Google Play Music website on your computer. There, you can click on the 3 vertical dot menu button associated with an album, then click Edit Album Info, and then click Change in the album art box. You can then select an image file to associate with the album. That should then sync with Google Play Music on your phone.

The above only applies to music in your music library in the cloud, though. If it's a music file that is only stored locally, then you probably need to use an ID3 tag editor to attach a image file. Or you can use Windows Media Player on your computer to attach the album art image file to the track, and then move that music file back to the phone.

I use album art grabber google the album or artist any cover you would like your album to have. Save it to gallery crop it and album art grabber will put any cover u have chosen on the album Only have to crop so the picture fits perfectly. Sounds like a long drawn out process but I've been doing it for a while so its convenient for me.

Hi B.Diddy

I think you have slightly missed the point of Jtyoung510's question. He's asking about changing/adding an image to the overall artist category not an image to an individual album. I'm having the same problems.

1. I have albums that I have uploaded to the cloud. The album image displays ok. But, there is no artist image (presumably because the artist is not in Google's database of artists) and I cannot work out how to add one. (When I click on the three dots on the blank artist image, the only option is to 'Shuffle artist').
Question: How do we add an image to an artist (not an album)?

2. Sometimes there is a default artist image which I would like to change.
Question: How do we add replace an artist image (not an album)?

Many thanks

The answer to both of your questions is this: you can't. You cannot add or change an artist image in Google Music through the app, Chrome app, or web interface. The album image is whatever is in the Google database. Artists without images will show up with that gray headphone image and/or an album image if that artist only has one album in your library. For example, I had added Nevermore to my library but only one album (The Obsidian Conspiracy). So that artist (who isn't in the Google database) would show the cover for The Obsidian Conspiracy. Just this morning I manually added four other Nevermore albums from my computer since they aren't on Google Music All Access. Now Nevermore shows up with the gray headphone icon for the artist image.

There's nothing we can do about it, the artist image is what it is (or isn't what it isn't).

What a bummer!! Thanks for clearing that up though, I was starting to pull my hair out trying to figure out how to insert an artists missing image. Really naff call on Googles part not being able to do so though...it spoils the visuals badly when in the Artists' category.
C'mon Goog's....make this little change to finish off what will be a real slick interface.

Exactly this! :).

Whoops! You're right. I only just now saw the subsequent discussion in this thread. I would agree, I don't think there's a way to add the artist photo. I found this support page, but it's for the actual artist to edit, not the listener: https://support.google.com/googleplay/artists/answer/1703323?hl=en

Doh I missed it like B.Diddy ... Sometimes look over and miss the major details!

The disappearing Artist photos is keeping me from wanting to sign up for Google All Access. I have artists whose photos previously displayed correctly but have since disappeared when I access Google Play Music "My Library" on my Windows PC. The now missing Artist photos (on my PC) still display correctly on my Android devices though. This is for music I have uploaded myself; two of the four artists I have uploaded have had their artist image disappear after displaying correctly for a number of months. I don't want to invest any more time or money into an app which is so inconsistent.

Sometimes this *can* be fixed. If an artist has a picture in the google play store, it should show in your library. For example: I have a Cass Elliot song. The album artist was listed as "Cass Elliot," as is the case in the store; the song artist, however, was "Mama Cass." The image didn't show. Changing the song artist to match the album artist fixed the issue and now the image displays.

It's another issue if the band has no image in the store (for example, Black Flag). You're out of luck. (Not sure why this happens. They sell Black Flag songs. A rights issue?)

Awesome, thank you very much! I checked all my artists with missing pictures and every one had a weird "album artist"

Setting both the "Artist" and "Album Artist" to valid artists fixed everything for me!

For me, i can't figure out how to change the artist or song name or anything like that, and also a lot of my songs don't have album info, instead of whatever artist it should be it just says "download", and a random stupid picture from my phone comes up as the album photo. Is there any way i can edit or remove the picture? I already deleted the pic from my phone but it still shows up

I have this problem as well. All of my art displays except for artist art. Now, it actually did show all of my aertist art before I updated the app. Once I updated it, the artist art doesn't show any more. I don't use cloud. All of my music is on my card and I tagged it myself using mp3tag.

This is my fiorst Android for what it's worth and I'm quickly concluding that I don't like it. How the heck is removing an app's ability to do something considered an update anyhow? That's dumb.

Not only that, the Google Play Music App always gets stuck so when I try to tap and fast forward on a song, it just goes back to the beginning. As well, I think it's rather dumb that album art that does actually display is zoomed the way it is.

And, so, I'm thinking the only way to make my music play and display the way that I want is to find a third party app. Which means I'll have three music players. The native default one, the Google Play one and then a third party one.

I'm thinking I may move from Android. Like I said, it's my forst Android and if they can't get somethi9ng as simple as a music player to work correctly without having to go through hoops I'm not looking forward to learning the cons of the rest of the Google Model.

If the pic is from your phone, and the music is downloaded/locally stored, you might want to copy the files to your computer and use something like MP3tag to check to see if the images are embedded. If not, you can go to Settings > Application Manager > Google Play Music (under ALL) and get the app info, and "Clear Data".

The app on android pics a random artist name from your collection and embeds that picture in their database instead of the pic that you assign to the song and then when you click on the artist tab, it shows the wrong picture. So I have a collection of my own songs that I recorded and under my name I see the image of another band that is from one of my other tracks with shared credits. The fact that this master "artist" pic and id can not be changed is absurd.

Thank you for this explanation, I looked all over the place for this. I have a new question I hope you can help me. Why an artist picture selected for my artist, disaperared after a while? Lets say Beyonce's, Iwas uploading Beyonce's album and an artist picture appeared, then after a while it just disapeared and now a big B in a red circle appears. Do you know how to fix this?
