Charging Issue

Last week I purchased 128 GB Note 9. I saw that the 512 GB variant was available. I decided to exchange it but I’m noticing charging issues. At night I put it on my wireless charger. Only to wake up in the morning and find that it stopped charging in the middle on the night. I charge my X and S9+ from this same charger and no issue. Last night I took off the Speck case and it started charging normal. Can some Note 9 have weaker QI charging than others? The 128 GB did not have this issue. At least I don’t think it did. Same thing happens with my car charger. It charges sporadically. I used this with my S9 Plus and never had this issue. I think I’m going crazy.

I've noticed that with some cases prevent the note 9 and 8 from sitting flush against the back of the wireless charger. If this happens, you can either take off the case or turn the phone in landscape position. It has such a small lip on the front of the charger when upright, the phone slides forward a tad bit leaving a small gap behind the phone so it doesn't touch.there are chargers from other manufacturers that have bigger lips and support bigger phones

I use to have it in landscape on my S9+ and Note 9 128 GB and noticed it wasn’t charging. Portrait position is the best for me. What’s weird is i used the same case for both Notes. This didn’t happen in the 128 GB. I should have just kept that variant.

What chargers?

I use Samsung flat wireless pad and upright that is mainly used with iPhone X. There are cheaper but not for me, had some that were poorly made, even from Apple Store.

My experience with wireless charging my Note 8 and Note 9 with Samsung desktop charger is spot on with Richards. With case on, horizontal works best consistently. Where as portrait position is more problematic - initially looks like its charging only to find later that it is not charging.

My Note 9 is the 128G.

Good luck with your issue it's the exact opposite of what I experience. I simply figured out the problem through observation and trial and error positioning of the phone on the pad.

"such a small lip on the front of the charger"

Didn't see that before.

My upright has USBC on both ends of the cable, one reason I bought it, and it's not the dual position that can be flat or upright.

Mine works fine, in any position or orientation with iPhone X and Note. Both with robust cases, have been fine. Might be different chargers. Which is why I asked and linked to the ones I use.

I recall - once - my Note failed to charge, and seemed to be discharging at night. For which I turned off AOD which I don't need or use, plus cleared cache - and it's been fine since.

Yes it seems like mechanical physical issue with case + pad rather than software.

Does anyone have any charging problems with the Samsung Wireless Charging Pad Model EP-PG950?

While it says "Fast Charge" it doesn't I unplug it and go direct and get a fast charge

This Wireless Charge was free last year when I bought the Note 8. I received a Note 9 today and noticed both would not "Fast Charge" on the pad

A couple of things here... there is a setting to disable/enable fast wireless charging on your phones. The option is located at Settings -> Device Maintenance -> Battery -> 3 dots -> Advanced settings.

If you have a case on your phone(s) try without the case. I have a different Samsung wireless charging pad and my phone will only charge with the case off. I have 2 other fast wireless charging pads (a Seneo and an Anker) and both those work with the case on the phone.

Fast wireless charging is faster than regular wireless charging but is not as fast as wired fast charging.

The Note 9 was fresh out of the box so , no case at the time I noticed the charge.

While surfing the boards for info , I read that I needed to set my Note 9 to fast charge on a pad.
The video that was shown did show the settings for wired charging and wireless charging
when I looking in my Note 9 ( Verizon ) that option wasn't there.

It seems that I recall reading that those options only appear after your device has encountered a fast charger for that method.

I would suspect that there is something wrong with your charging pad.

Could be, but it does sound strange LOL

Wondering if it could be set up differently for Verizon , compared to maybe AT&T
On these reviews they never seem to tell you what service they are reviewing

I have had nothing but issues with every single charging pad I've used. Always seems to be finicky... It shouldn't be that frustrating... And I'm talking years ago, too. I've stopped even trying to use them since I have to have stuff tweaked on my phone or reboot or placed EXACTLY LIKE THIS or whatever to just get it to work. And then of course, maybe once in 5 tries it would actually charge my phone to 100%.. Most of the time I would wake up to a half charged phone...
I've had two Samsung Actives and 2 notes and all 4 of those phones had wireless charging issues with different oem and non-oem pads... I know have a Note 9 and haven't even attempted wireless charging... Lol. I'd have to go buy ANOTHER wireless pad since Ive sold all the others since.. What kind of SUCKER continues to buy this crap??? Not me. I'm out.
