Anyone having any issues with charging from cables besides what came with the phone?

I have a long USB cable with a USB-C adapter that is perfect for next to my bed because of length, yet it wont charge my Pixel2XL, shows charging for a split second then stops. This cable has always and still does work just fine with my PixelXL. Does the Pixel2XL require something special?

Thanks

I was having the same issue I just bought a second official Google charger kit the 18w charger that comes with a 6 foot cable instead of the 3 foot that came with the phone

You can't just use any old cords, adapters, or chargers with any Pixel phone. You risk messing the device up.

You need to purchase a USB-C to USB-C cable from a reputable company or from the Google Store. I've purchased new USB-C to USB-C cables from WiroTech, Cambond, and BlitzWolf for my vehicles and living room usage.

Check your phone amperage using the Google charger and cable with this app. Then check it again with the USB-C adapter and see the amperage difference. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere

You don't need C to C cords to charge a Pixel 2.

If you want to use a cable with the charger that comes with the Pixel 2 it needs to be USB-C to USB-C. I haven't yet seen an adapter that is compliant with the USB-C spec that doesn't have a USB-C port. They could be out there, but I haven't seen one.

You could always charge the Pixel 2 from a standard USB port, but you won't be able to get rapid charging that way. And if you do that you need to make sure that you cable is USB-C compliant, complete with the required 56k ohm pull up resistor, or you could cause damage to the port your charging from.

You jumo into conversations and don't know what you are talking about. Do you even have a Pixel or Pixel 2?

I have a Pixel and a Moto Z Force Droid. Both are USB C phones.

I don't need to own a Pixel 2 to comment in the Pixel 2 forum.

You don't need C to C to charge a Pixel 2.

What other approved charging brick is he going to use other than the approved one? The majority of the ones on Amazon aren't approved. And you run the risk of harming your device using one of those Amazon charging bricks with a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Approved by who?

Regular charging is safe as long as you're using the right cable. There are plenty of A to C cables that Benson and Nathan K have marked as OK.

And Google has A to C cables on the Pixel 2 accessory page. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...gory/accessories_wall?hl=en-US&token=OfTcmxZM

Exactly correct.

Exactly! This was my point.

Yet you never mentioned "fast" charging in your "you need to use C to C" post.

Buying proper A to C cables is fine. I'm just trying to clear up any confusion. You do NOT need a C to C cable to charge a Pixel 2.

You trying to fry his phone by telling him to use USB-A to USB-C. It's easier just to tell people to buy a USB-C to USB-C cable and use an approved charger. Otherwise they are going to wonder why their phone isn't charging fast enough. Especially a new person.

How so?

I linked Google's accessory page that has a proper A to C cable.

What is he going to do with an A to C cable when his charging brick is C? Hello.

I replied to you. Again, your advice that C to C is need to charge a Pixel 2 is just flat out wrong. My goal is to clear up the misinformation that you provided.

You assume he knows how to read that horrible spreadsheet after receiving his new phone. You weren't being helpful. I don't moderate a forum, I am actually highly trained at providing people with directions. Simple answer was to use C to C. You gave him the figure it out with this spreadsheet. That's in no way helpful to him.

Again, you simply stated that you NEED a C to C cable to charge a Pixel 2.

I'm just pointing out your specific statement is wrong.

The OP's question was why his charger/cable that charged his Pixel XL just fine won't charge his Pixel 2 XL.

*Fact check your inability to properly comprehend grammar* (directed at no one in particular)

:D

I don't have the Pixel 2, but the first gen. I can charge mine with the USB A to USB C cord. It's not rapid charging, but it is charging.

But to answer the question; I would guess there is a specification difference between the 2 cables that is inhibiting the rapid charging on the P2XL.

It only charges for a slit second and stops charging at all according to the OP. I'm curious about the difference between Pixel XL and the Pixel 2XL charging now too.

Wait, so is it a USB C cable or a USB cable with an adapter for USB C?

I've never used the cable that came with it. I have a 2 port charger from Google my Pixel XL charger and Pixel C charger. No issues.

We don't even know if his cable was compliant to be used with his XL let alone his 2 XL. If it was a C-C he wouldn't have this problem. Hence I recommended going with a C-C cable for that room in his house. From my understanding, the C-C cables are compliant where as A-C cables need to be checked with a fine tooth comb.

When you say compliant, I think you're referring to USB PD compliant. Of so, that's not necessary to produce a charge, it is only necessary to produce the upper levels of rapid charging. The pixels are not restricted to taking only a charge from PD compliant cables/bricks nor any type of cables connectors.

I have had the Nexus 6p, the Pixel XL, and I now have the Pixel 2XL, and I'm still using the original cable that came with the 6P, as well as a couple of A to C cables. I have never even unwrapped my cables which came with either my Pixel XL or my Pixel 2XL. They are my backup cables for when I will eventually need them. I also use the Anker 5 port charger containing four USB-A ports and one USB-C slot with absolutely no problems to any device I have owned.

I know and agree that one has to make sure one uses approved cables. I also know and agree that one can find approved A to C cables which are approved, for I use them with no problem. The main difference is between rapid charging and regular charging. I use the rapid charger during the day and the regular charging when going to bed.

I have not seen any difference between the cables needed for any of the three devices (Nexus 6P, Pixel XL, and Pixel 2XL), nor with my sister's devices (Nexus 5x and Pixel). She uses my cables and my chargers with absolutely no problems at all, and we have been doing this since 2015.

Perhaps there is simply something wrong with the OP's cable/charger, or with the outlet they are using.
