While i work sales and marketing I will give your technical issue a shot. First i will point out the obvious the generic does not heat up bc of the usb 2.0 cord, it allows less voltage to be carried to the device. Might I ask are the cords the same in length?
I have very little to go off of so I would say try charging it off with the oem cord and see if that makes a diff. You would be surprised at how busy your phone is all night while you are sleeping, this of course depends on your apps. Everything from app updates, synching accounts, back ups, background apps, wifi, BT, and cell antennas running.
Give this a shot turn off bluetooth and wifi, put device in power saving mode before bed, choose to limit the cpu. You might even benefit from in to the recovery mode and wishing the cache partition clean. Hope this helps.
