Are there any major risks to manually updating via the sd card method? I'm on the verge of just doing it, I just don't want anything weird to happen. If there's anything that's not quite working they'll just fix it in the official OTA right?

Also, just Fyi I'm completely stock. No roms or anything like that.

I had the same error after I had to do a factory reset to my unresponsive phone. I was not rooted. I had to update manually to Jelly Bean here: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/03/07/download-official-droid-razr-jelly-bean-update-98-72-16-for-those-on-ice-cream-sandwich-6-16-211/

It offers 2 links, one for those on ICS and one for those who got the update in December, just pick the applicable link.

Good instructions. Took about 20 minutes total and my Razr Maxx is now on Jelly Bean.
