Check out the HTC 10 at Verizon store on Friday!! Anyone?

I'm probably going to go get it Thursday (release day) hopefully they have them in stock.. I was going to preorder with the $100 discount but it would have to ship and that'd take longer.. Honestly my sister just got a 6s and it made me greatly rethink getting the HTC 10.. But overall the Android won (like most of the time, though I can't beat the experience of an apple... Just not enough modding/customization allowed) probably getting a dbrand skin to cover the silver with a black/dark metal color so the clashing colors don't bother me 😅 wonder if anyone's attempted using the unlocked model with a vzw sim? I've heard mixed answers from reps

I really wish the moderators would push the S7 arguments to the S7 versus 10 thread. Every thread about the 10 seems degrade about how invincible the AMOLED is and how beyond hateful the LCD is on the 10. Just gets reeeeeeaaaal old hearing the same people harping the same stuff.

I have yet to go into a Verizon store and get my hands on the device. People that have done so have given mixed impressions on the device. Since it hasn't been universal this means I have no idea on what to expect. I hope I like it enough to make it my next phone. I have a pre order of the device right now. I will go today when I get off work to see for myself. I hope I don't leave the store wanting to cancel my pre order.

Are they supposed to "for sure" be in stores today? I had a bead on one store having one delivered today...but its a kiosk in a mall...not so sure about how valid the data is on it. One of the Corp stores told me they wont have it until its officially released. :-\

For anyone who has seen this at Verizon store - how much bloatware did they load on it?

I spent time with the HTC 10 at Verizon and came away very very impressed. In terms of display, the Galaxy S7 Edge screen is definitely better, but the screen on the HTC 10 is not at all bad. Performance wise, the HTC 10 definitely did the little thing faster than the S7 such as opening the phone app or the calendar app or Contacts, etc., etc. While this should be no deal breaker for anyone considering an S7, I and a friend came away believing the performance on the HTC 10 as well as the design were topnotch.

I currently own a Galaxy S6 and plan to ditch it (and Sprint) for the HTC 10, as soon as it becomes available on T-Mobile

...a lot. I mean they really went all out. Also, they put their name on the back of the phone. Despite that, the phone remained a performance beast.

What...?

People stare at their phone screens for literally hours a day. Evidenced by everyone on these forums trying to get 5+ hour SOT. It's 2016, most people would rather have the best phone display rather than the best TV display. YouTube at 1440p on my Note 5 (basic screen mode) looks gorgeous.

If you'd like to be objective, please enlighten us on the 10's pink tint, dimmer display, and subpar refresh rates leading to ghosting (in 2016!). Why do these properties not "suck"?

We do, but how good Youtube videos hardly matters because they are for quick dirty consumption of junk. If you want to watch a feature like Deadpool or Avengers or whatever, you're going to do it on a larger device. So, at least I personally don't care how good Jon Rettinger from Technobuffalo looks in terms of saturation or black levels.

The much bigger problem is resolution degradation color change and eventual pixels dying in an RGB PENTILE based AMOLED that Samsung uses. Which, honestly, is technology from like 3 years ago. LG's White AMOLED base is MUCH better and longer lasting. Samsung essentially gives us outdated displays that don't last more than a year or two to get their moneys worth of OLED manufacturing. LG's 65" AMOLED TV on the other hand, costs $5000.

Sure, I'll enlighten you on the 10's display:

It's a LCD, and it has a pink tint. As long as it's even, that's OK. I saw the pink tint in store, it's there. But then, my S7 Edge has a pink tint too. As does my Macbook Pro and my iPad Pro. It's color temperature, preference. As long as it's even, people don't mind. People tend to mind yellow tints much more so.

Dimmer display is only an issue outdoors. If you use your Samsung phone outdoors at 800+ nits all day long, expect your AMOLED pixels to die very quickly. Also, the S7 Edge is still hard to see in bright outdoor sunlight. As it is with the iPhone. Maybe a little harder to see with the HTC 10. Big deal, unless you're driving at 1500+ Nits, every device is going to be hard to see.

Refresh rate and ghosting? It's a 60hz display, so it probably affects every LCD panel at this refresh rate. My $3000 MBP ghosts. As does my iPad Pro. As does my Surface Pro 4. Don't really care. I'll get an Acer Predator X34 with 100hz + overdrive and Nvidia G Sync Card if I really care about ghosting.

This is just all my own opinion, and although I own like 4x Galaxy devices right now, I am NOT enamored by Samsung's AMOLED device lifespan and burn in. And the other downfalls to Samsung software and support.

I can't wait for the HTC 10 because hopefully, it's a Nexus like device with some of the same excellent front and rear facing camera features of Samsung devices of late, with fewer of the Samsung drawbacks. Otherwise, I'd just go back to an iPhone which honestly, is in many ways still a 100% superior, smoother, more quality OS than Android (especially TouchWiz).

Oh my god, performance is 100% improved from my S7 Edge. I don't want to blast the S7 Edge too much because I still have sell mine, but the Qualcomm version we get here in the states along with TouchWiz is such a laggy piece of crap.

I hope my store has a device available so I could see how it works for myself. People have been able to go into their Verizon store and test the device out for themselves since Friday. I just haven't had the time to make it over there for myself so I'm unsure if my store has a device or not.

I will swing by again today to check it out some more, but if I remember, they do have the usual Verizon add ons (My Verizon, Tones, Nav, etc) which can be disabled.

I use Samsung Pay, but I'm not willing to put up with TouchWiz to keep it. I'll just use Android Pay where available :p

Call first. I don't live in a small city (I thought), but I have not been able to find a place to get my grubby paws on a working version. Most stores "phone number" pipes you to Corporate line and you get a song and dance at that point. Not sure why Verizon found it necessary to pipe general inquires to a help desk type environment...

Hopefully the bootloader can be unlocked via htcdev but I'm not feeling optimistic... That way I can clear the crapware and root (mostly for adaway lol)

I will. And I've been able to call the Verizon store and get the store that I wanted to call. You just have to listen to all of the options. If I recall correctly you would have to press the option for sales. The option for customer service would get you to the call center. Sales gets you to the store. Unless they have changed things up.

Thanks...I guess my impatience of listening to automated menus got me again.... LOL!

Just stopped at Verizon store. The phone is impressive, but the screen isn't that bright. At 50% brightness it's nowhere near as bright as my S7 set at 50%. I like the build quality but I think I will end up keeping my S7.

I would be interested to know what the difference is at 100 percent

You are a brave man for going into one of their stores in NYC.
With the VZ wireline guys on strike and picketing out front I will wait till their strike is over, and hey who knows maybe they will have the phone in the stores by then!
I just read that you will able to get the vz model of the phone from HTC direct.
Probably the safer way to go that to cross that line of angry people!

The picketers were actually very polite to me....wished me goodnight as I left the store.

I'm sorry but I don't stare at my phone for 5 hours a day and I don't know why you would rather have a better phone display than a tv display. Not even sure why why there that in there.
