Check your data plan after you activate your SGS III

So what activation method is working? Just go to the store and make sure it is done right? Do I need to make a MyVerizon account? I disabled my old one since I never used it.

If you don't have a micro-SIM and one isn't sent to you yes you will need to go to the Vzone store. Otherwise just plug in the SIM and you should be activated. At least that's how it worked for me (coming from a Galaxy Nexus).

I received my S3 today. After reading about the problems others have had on this thread, I decided on activate using the online method (myverizon). Everything went smooth and The phone activated with no problems, other than it took about seven minutes. I checked and rechecked my plan and I still have unlimited data. Praise God!

I had no issues with activation and I retained unlimited data.

Edit: I also used online activation.

Forgot to mention I just popped my Sim card in and the SGS3 activated just fine. Didn't do anything online.

I activated today without issues. Still have unlimited too.

On a side note... I talked a co-worker into pre-ordering the GS3 a couple weeks ago, while he was on the phone with VZW, the CSR told him that he would not be able to keep his unlimited data, keep in mind that he is calling on the 25th. He argued with the CSR and told him that he has a buddy who knows a lot about this stuff that said he should still be able to keep unlimited data, the CSR kept telling him no and tried to push him into finalizing his order. He finally hung up without pre-ordering and told me what happened. I told him that was BS and to call back.

The next CSR gave him no issues and even told him that it was a good thing he was calling into pre-order so he could keep his unlimited.

Just goes to show that there are dirty CSRs out there, and very uninformed ones.

Here's how verizon screwed me. I preordered on 6/7. They sent me an email on 7/5 telling my order was on hold but processing takes three days. Apparently, that was to tell me my payment was rejected (my credit card had been stolen in mid June and they were still using the oldnumber), but they never used the words "rejected" or "call us." Just leaving the impression that everything will be alright and the phone will ship on 7/11.

Called today. They told me my order had been cancelled because I hadn't called them. I could get back in the queue and get a phone on 7/19 under the new data plan.

No thanks. Starting research on whether ATT or Sprint in better in DC.

I pre-ordered my SGS III from Verizon and finally received it today. I eagerly activated it and soon afterwards received a text message saying that I was over my data limit!

I went online and found that my unlimited data and unlimited hotspot were no longer on my account, and had been replaced with a 2 gig data plan. I called Verizon and 40 minutes later both were back on my account.

The rep I spoke with told me that she's received calls from other customers who pre-ordered and had their unlimited data incorrectly removed after activating their SGS III.

For those with unlimited data and who pre-ordered before the Verizon share plans went into effect, after you activate your SGS III, MAKE SURE YOU STILL HAVE UNLIMITED DATA.
Ok, so I have been reading a lot lately for the new sg3. I preorder mine once it was available! But, they never mention me anything about all those options. And I have to say that when I went to the store, they had no idea on how to preorder the phone. They never gave me an option to pick it at the store.or to be sent to my place!!! Neither of what color I wanted, or what storage capacity. They had no clue on what to do!!! And I left a $50 deposit. But they keep telling they will call me and that they will have ALL the available option when they are available. I'm not sure what to expect anymore, and all I want is to keep my unlimmited and get my galaxy s 3 soon. What should I do?

Doesn't sound like you got a real pre-order completed. I don't think this will end well for you.

Just got my phone.

Activated sim card using landline and following instructions on the sheet that was provided. I did this BEFORE I turned on the phone. Once I got the "success" message, I popped card into phone and turned it on. Worked great. No hassles or problems.

Called Verizon to confirm and unlimited data is still on as is my corporate discount.

No problems whatsoever!

I think the key is to activate the sim card first before anything else. At least that's what I did and it worked great. Kath

Interesting thing happened yesterday when I activated. I used an upgrade from another line on my account for use on my line. The order wasn't placed correctly (could have been my fault, but I ordered over the phone, so I don't think it was), and the sim card I received was for the other number and not mine. I went to a local corporate store to get another sim card, which was easy enough. I called to activate to ensure I kept unlimited, and the rep said that the only line that would lose unlimited was the line I was using to upgrade. So, if that were true, in theory I could continue to transfer upgrades from other lines onto mine while keeping unlimited indefinitely right? Maybe? Four lines on the account, only two use data. I'm sure it could be a stretch, but I will try next time anyways:)

My wife and I both activated our S3's yesterday. My wife's went fine (called the number and got the automated activation, and kept her unlimited - she was coming from the Droid X). Mine didn't - I called, gave my phone number and had it come back with the wrong order number (I was coming from the Thunderbolt). I went with the option to activate another order and entered my info, and it bounced it and handed me over to a CSR.

After waiting for a while, the CSR was able to activate it, but my unlimited was changed to a 2 GB plan. She asked me when I preordered (on father's day) and changed it back to unlimited without asking, which was nice (though I had her confirm it a time or two, just to be sure).

She also said that the preorder date was really important, and that they (the CSR's) would be able to change a number back to the unlimited plan for up to 14 days after activation, assuming that the preorder was before the 28th and the line had unlimited before.

She also confirmed that my wife was still on unlimited, but that it was really common for plan's to switch at activation, and she had no idea and had noticed no trends for why it happened. She also asked my thoughts on the phone, and said she was really tempted by it (apparently they weren't able to preorder it due to demand).

Today, I confirmed that both phones are unlimited still on the web interface, so it looks like we're good to go.

I was stupid and activated over the phone. The woman "helping" me informed me that I'd be switched to a 2gb plan. I naively thought that since I was talking to a live person I'd get it fixed and got very upset when she kept telling me that I was wrong, that my contract didn't in fact say unlimited data, and that everybody getting LTE gets moved to 2gb plans. (Obviously nobody told that to my wife's phone but whatever).
I would probably be marching to Verizon headquarters with murder in my eye if I hadn't read the blog that said "Don't Panic". I called *611 and explained my story and the woman helping me switched me back to unlimited.

What a skeevy bait and switch! I just know that thousands of customers are going to lose their unlimited data because they're going to trust Verizon. It's so crooked for a company to only be honest to the people who are monitoring them. Ultimately I stay with Verizon because their cell coverage is good. I'm looking forward to the day when we all have universal phones that work on all US carriers.

No issues here either. Dropped my Maxx SIM into the S3 and it fired right up. Got a new SIM for my wife's line to put her on the Maxx from a 4S and both still show unlimited data.

Holy moly. I would go back to the place (sounds like a non-corporate verizon reseller) and make as big of a stink as possible. Do it when there are other customers around. It sounds like something very shady since if you go direct to VZ you pay NO deposit to pre-order. Your best hope is that they just screwed something up and they can reconcile it. If not, just try to get your 50 bucks back, and take this as a life lesson, do NOT trust verizon resellers! Go to an actual corporate store, call, or go through the VZ web site. Verizon lets some VERY crappy people resell for them, it's a shame but it's true.

Activated my card online before turning anything on, popped it in the device, up and running in about 2 minutes. Still showing unlimited data on my plan, but I'll keep checking for the next few days.

First thing that changed on my account: New device eligibility in March 2014. LOL

I did the same but today it shows me on the shared plan  . I even called them yesterday before I got my phone to verify I still showed on the unlimited data. Ugh, now I have to call them again today to get me back on the unlimited.

I had no problems with activation. Called and then put in the new sim card since my Bionic one was too big. But I did lose unlimited data.

But I will also say they were very apologetic over the phone and fixed it very quickly.
