Hi

I know this is not part of Chromecast yet but is it possible or is there any plans for this to happen

I want to use Chromecast to display my desktop to my tv as presentations or do word , or Powerpoint presentations and so on

Does anyone have an update on this ?

also how can someone put a feature request so the developers of Chromecast can look at it new ideas and so on

also does anyone know a good by pass or tricks that they are doing to maximize there Chromecast experience

Please advise

Thanks

Just tested this out and it does work. The second tab goes crazy and does this endless mirror within a mirror within a mirror effect, but as soon as you minimize Chrome the desktop will show up on your TV and you're off and running. Framerate isn't the best (join.me doesn't have a good framerate since it's not for video or anything) but it's certainly workable for local pictures or slides or putting a document up on the screen.

I will use google drive soon i have 100GB Goolge drive storage so i am good but this works properly for me and who knows we can figure out other ways
i bought Google Chromecast so i can do desktop share and so on and it works so i am happy Thanks

That's awesome! I wasn't sure if you used the Google Drive or the Join.me thing.

Well, right now you can only chromecast from Chrome that I am aware of (not your desktop).

Actually, it is possible to cast the whole desktop. It's an option in the Tab Cast extension. When you click on the icon in a tab, there should be an option for something like "Cast entire desktop." Then minimize Chrome and open up PowerPoint.

If you are using this for presentations could it be easier just to get a Android Mini-PC and then plug that into the TV. The only downside i see to that would be if you need a webex were you are the presenter.

Not sure where you are finding that. My options in the Chromecast extender are:
Auto-resizing
Tab projection quality
Fullscreen zoom.

Google was very specific when they said you would be able to cast a tab. They never mentioned an entire desktop.

When I click the Google Cast icon, it says "Cast this tab to... Beta" Then to the far right, there is a box with a down arrow. Clicking that gives the option to cast this tab, Cast entire screen, or audio mode. Cast entire screen mirrors the desktop onto the computer.

I wasn't at home when I made my comment, so I couldn't remember the details, and it's kinda hidden. But the option is there.

I've tried this with powerpoint. i loaded it into google drive, but when you open ppt you can't run it as a show... you lose the animations, the sound and you see all of the slides on the left hand of the screen.

i'm sure google will fix this and when they do it will be awesome.

I'm not so sure there is anything for Google to fix. You would have to have the ability to run Powerpoint presentations within Chrome. Now, if someone develops a Powerpoint viewing app for Android (Microsoft, are you listening?) with casting ability you might then be able to cast from a tablet. Or, maybe Google will add that ability to the QuickOffice app.

Why don't you just use powerpoint instead of google drive? I've done this with ppt presentations using Open Office and it plays the animations and is fullscreen. Now sound will only use the computer speakers but that doesn't have to be a problem if you just use some external speakers wth your computer. There may be a slight delay between sound and the image on the external screen but you can adjust the sound ahead of time since you know to expect that.

Also, make sure you do not have your computer setup to extend the display into 2 screens. That will cause you to get a split screen because it will cast both displays. You have to disable that before casting to get a fullscreen pres.
