Clearing Cache on razr hd

Ive tried multiple times to clear the cache on my wife's razr hd. I get to the little droid guy with the blue line underneath then just hangs for a long time until i finally just reset the phone.
she had an issue yesterday where she could not wake the phone up. then it finally unlocked. Any ideas? or should i contact VZW to send out a warranty replacement

These instructions are for the original Razr, but I'm guessing it should still work on the HD. When you see the Droid guy, press and hold the Volume Down button, then tap the Volume Up button.

I will try to wipe the device like this. Don't really want to have to reload all of her data. Was just looking at clearing the cache. Seems to not get passed the cache clearing process to reboot the phone

So wait--you tried to wipe the cache partition, and it just freezes?

yes. exactly that.

Does the blue line show any progress, or is it just static? On my original Razr Maxx, there is also text displayed saying that the partition is being wiped and formatted, then done. When it's done, I see "Reboot System Now" highlighted in the Recovery Menu (which never disappeared). You don't see any of that?

I see the text to the left of the screen only saw being wiped, the blue line shows no movement. I only gave it max 5 min. Should i wait longer? My maxx hd only takes a few seconds to complete

Yeah, it shouldn't take that long. Factory reset may be in order.
