coming to a motorola maxx from a iphone 4s

great response french. I am glad I came to the maxx from the iphone 4s. For me it is just more customizable and the signal issue is far in between, just the weak areas, keep in mind, I am in the midwest not a city.

another thing that I liked about the Iphone over any android phone is the iphone does not have verizon's bloatware or name on it. Apple wont allow it. I dont care if verizons name is on the phone, but come on, bloatware that most dont use. And yes we do get a little from apple, like the newstand that you cant hide, delete or put in a folder.

I enjoyed reading this post and hearing from others, and I am really impressed that it did not turn into a this is better, troll thread. Everyone had very good inputs and everyone noted that some features were better on both phones, this was a very well discussed subject, hats off to everyone that contributed and helped. thanks

I am making the switch from a 4s to a maxx and can't wait. I had a bunch of lte phones and am looking to see how the maxx performs and how it is once it gets ics.

I placed my order this morning, and it should arrive tomorrow by 10:30 AM. I can't wait!

And we're supposedly on the verge of an ICS update, which should be interesting. I'm going to wait until after the update to install anything but my most important apps.

Just like the OP, I too am coming from a 4S. The truth is, I've had a whole lotta phones over the years and I don't really pledge allegiance to any particular OS or manufacturer. I do love Apple products and I think the iPhone OS is very stable and smooth but it's incredibly boring. I love new things (especially new technology) and Google consistently delivers that. I like having a homescreen and widgets... I hate how Apple has everything as an app. It's stale and old and it hasn't really changed since 2007.

That being said, I've hated Android for the longest times. Force closing apps, random errors, sluggish performance, poorly designed apps.. the list goes on. I also have a Mac at home which made using an iPhone the logical thing to do.

I recently played around with Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 and really enjoyed it but I work as a digital marketer doing social media work and it just didn't have the apps or support to really handle my work requirements. So, I picked up the Galaxy Nexus at Verizon since they didn't have the MAXX.

I absolutely hated it. It kept dropping 4G and when it did that, it would cut off all signal. I couldn't make calls or send texts until it reacquired signal which seemed to take a long time. Also, the phone felt cheap in the hands the battery on it was terrible.

I exchanged it for the iPhone 4S which I had previously on ATT. I decided to give the MAXX a try and just buy it outright (my friends say I have an addiction akin to gambling). I've had it for a few days and I can say with 100% certaintity that I'm keeping this phone and I love it.

The battery on this thing is amazing. I actually fell asleep last night in bed from exhaustion without turning off my lights or plugging in my phone and panicked for a second that my phone wouldn't last the day. It was at 50% from the charge on the day before and it's still going right now. I use it regularly to send emails, texts, send out tweets, respond to customer service issues that come up on FB or Twitter, check into foursquare, play drawsomething and download atleast 2 apps a day.

The screen is not as good as the iPhone 4S but I knew that going into it. The screen does not bother me on a regular basis and I believe if you want to use this phone daily, it won't bother you either. You'll just get used to it. Everyone I've shown the phone to says the screen looks great. The homescreen is fast and fluid although I'm not a huge fan of the UI that Motorola has implemented. It's not that bad really and there are some things I do appreciate about it. For such a slim phone with a big screen, I'm amazed at the battery life.

For the people who are complaining about the battery, if you aren't getting 24 hours out of your battery on this thing, then something is wrong. Yes, I don't have 4G on but I use it when I need to. I need my phone on constantly in case something goes wrong at work or my family needs me. I also like to kick back after work and play some games, so yes, I need it to last. I hated having to worry about babying the phones... even older android phones that had apps that would drain the battery. That issue seems to be solved in the newer OS's for Android since I've used it and this battery also solves that issue too.

Overall, I think this is a great phone. I'm reccomending it to everyone I know who likes Android (and those who don't). I like Apple products but I think when you get too comfortable with your products or services, you tend not to innovate as much. Google seems to push out newer and better stuff faster. I do think the quality of Apps is below that of iOS but hey, we got instagram today!

Over the past few years I've owned the Pre, Blackberry Pearl, HTC Hero, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, HTC Titan, HTC Arrive, T-Mobile G1, BB Bold, Samsung Epic 4G. I'm probably leaving a few out.

Anyways, great phone. Glad to be back on Android and back on these forums! Excited for ICS too!

The influx of former iPhone 4S users coming over to Android (like myself) is starting to get greater I see. It is almost like people are demanding more from their two hundred plus dollar investments and we should. There were several apps that I held on to my iPhone for and kept it for a while until I couldn't do it any longer. Since we all received Instagram today, that was like the icing on the cake for me. I know many users who swore to never leave Apple because of that app and that app alone. Now that it is cross platform I don't hear many people claiming to stay now. One of my buddies today told me that had he known Instagram was coming to Android he would have stuck with his Android.

I am the same way. I change phones very often and do not pledge allegiance to any OS and frequently change between android, IOS and even wp7. I like trying new phones and each has their pros and cons. I think android continues to get better and IOS seems to get stale after awhile. I hope more lte phones come with larger batteries in a small size like the maxx so you can easily make it through a day with heavy use.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I have settled on the Maxx to finally replace my Pre+ after two years of faithful service. I was split between the iPhone 4s or the Maxx and this thread has gotten me pretty convinced. Now I need to just convince the wife that I can spend $250 for a phone...

I'm glad that's the case. My wife, however, will probably never leave her iPhone, and honestly, I don't think she should - it just works, and she doesn't demand much out of it, so I have fewer problems to manage.

Unfortunately, my co-workers are running in the opposite direction and ditching Android and Blackberry for iPhones. The top-tier executives now have the option of replacing their Blackberries with iPhones as well.

One co-worker was a diehard Android user - until he got lost in rural Maryland when Google Nav gave him bad directions. He immediately dumped his Droid X for an iPhone. But I've never had such a problem with Google Nav, and I suspect it's only going to get better over time.

So do I - I've used everything but WP7, and would be willing to try it if VZW had a wider selection of phones.

From what I've seen of ICS, Android has made great strides in OS development. I can't wait to see how it works on my new MAXX (which is zipping its way through suburban Detroit on a FedEx truck at the moment).

:D I had to fight the same battle, though it wasn't too difficult. I dropped my uninsured iPhone 4S in a toilet 5 weeks ago, and it has been acting strangely ever since.
