Confession: This "X Feature" stuff is annoying

off screen buttons are nothing but a benefit. I cannot comprehend how anyone would want buttons that take up valuable phone real estate.

Why on-screen buttons are better (see? I stated my opinion as fact... ;))
1. Customizable
2. Hideable (PIE FTW)
3. No annoying menu bar on the screen a la HTC One
4. Auto-rotate
5. They don't add on to the bezel (compare the Moto X and Droid Maxx bottom bezel... the Maxx's is larger)
6. #holoyolo

I started off really loving the on screen buttons on the GNex until some ******* pointed out the screen burn in that is evident when you start watching full screen video like Netflix!

I like the idea of them, but in practice, I've grown to prefer off screen buttons all the way.

Except you don't see them in any other phone with on-screen buttons... pretty sure that problem is exclusive to the GNex and some other phones with physical buttons, as it's never been mentioned about the Nexus 4.

Good luck rooting the X for those "customizations".

It's so stupid to use valuable screen space for buttons. Worst decision google ever made. I'd much rather have to occasionally deal with double tap menu for legacy apps than have to deal with onscreen buttons 100% of the time.

The GNex, like the X will have the burn in issue because its AMOLED. The X is semi-transport to mitigate the problem. The N4 didn't burn in because its LCD.

Did you read my post?

PIE.

And even if I don't use that, I'd rather have some screen space taken away than have a huge bezel -> a huge phone.

8mm taller for offscreen buttons and a bigger screen..."Huge"....well, I'll take it, any day.

I'm not going to reply to anyone in particular but here are my opinions. The Maxx is not a "Phablet". I previously owned a Note 2...THAT is a phablet. I believe the S4 has a 5" screen as well right? So Samsung has two flagship phones that are phablets? No. I hope to never use that word as much as I just did again. I bought the Maxx because of the smaller size(compared to the Note 2). The novelty kind of wore off for me and the size started to get annoying for a daily driver.

The Maxx in my opinion looks great and feels great in the hand. But I will say it becomes uncomfortable after a few minutes. Like right now as I type this, the corner is poking into my hand.

The battery life is fantastic and like the OP, I'm in an area at work that have very thick walls. I get very little service & wifi is hit and miss. Yet I go home with usually about 60%+ of my battery left 9-10 hours later. Even though I shouldn't be, I stream music for a few hours and use it regularly throughout my shift. Again, that figure is with it constantly searching for 2 signals all day.

So i won't have buyers remorse. And oh by the way, I purchased this at full price to keep unlimited data. Almost 2 weeks later, I'm glad I did!

My decision got narrowed down to the Maxx, the One and the X. There are some distinguishing reasons to get any of them over the others and I'd have no trouble recommending any of the three to someone shopping for a device tomorrow.

Similar here. Came down to the Maxx and One for my work cell, and entertained the thought of getting my wife an X last week.

Sent from a Droid Maxx.

I generally don't care, but have to admit the general hate ( not just from the verge) has boggled me. The phone is good to great and people underestimate the benefits of the battery. There is this notion that everything not X from moto is crap. Its the internet I should know not to care.
