All:

As I'm evaluating new phones to switch to from BlackBerry, I'm looking at Android as a possibility. My wife and I both use the voice dialing on our current phones on a regular basis, but I've seen conflicting information about whether Android does voice dialing using a bluetooth headset (specifically I'm wondering about Android 2.1, not earlier versions). I am looking at the Samsung Moment as a possibility, if the functionality varies by manufacturer.

Thanks!

It has an app called "voice dialer" 2.0+ but it isn't enabled by using the headset, it is enabled by actually clicking on the program itself.

A terrible shortfall of android

Android doesn't. I've seen at least one handset maker include voice dialing in one of their models but I can't recall the details.

One work around is to use a BT headset with built-in voice dialing such as the BlueAnt Q1.

I can't speak to the functionality of other devices... but, Droid running 2.1 can not do voice dialing with bluetooth. I am using a jawbone prime 2. There is voice dialing that can be done using the phone in your hand and the speaker on the phone - but, this is not a true "handsfree" experience.

I know this is unbelievable. You DID hear right... even the most current OS on (what I consider) the most advanced device does not do something flip phones from 5 years ago did.

Thanks for the info all. Avacomputers, Can you activate the voice dialing from the headset?

I use my voice dialing constantly while driving so I don't have to take my eyes off the road, and I don't want to stop that...
