Constant "Confirm Password" - stucked

[Android Central Question]

I tried to change my fingerprint secured phone to a password secured one ... but after I managed to disable the fingerprint lockscreen ... while introducing the new password something went wrong, horribly.

I get the "Confirm password" screen (which would be normal once after entering a new password) ALL THE TIME i touch a setting that has anything to do with Lock screen/encryption.

Additional info:
- currently I am completely unable to secure my phone (I'm only able to use "swipe" for "unlocking")
- I can't decrypt my sd card if I can't get rid of that "stucked" confirmation

Any ideas (without hardreset - because I would like to acces my data on the SD card)

I did state in my post to do a full backup first so your data would be protected. Unless I have misunderstood you still have access to the phone?

@Galactic Zoo I do indeed have access to my phone (I can even state that I'm unable to take that access away right now, can not secure it in any way), but my SD card is encrypted and my phone is unable to decrypt it (trying to disable the encryption pops the "Confirm password" screen yet again)
