When creating a new contact, I have the choice to choose Google(gmail) or Phone... what is the difference? Is it that I can retrieve my contacts through gmail, if I happen to lose them?

Yes, Google contacts are synced with your gmail. Phone contacts are not.

I recommend setting up all contacts as google contacts. That way if you ever need to wipe your device (say for a custom rom or something) when you go through the initial setup and sign in to your google account they will be recovered automatically.

Is there a way to change my contact type from Phone to Google, or would I have to re enter each contact
