Convince me on why to get gs3 over the iphone 5

This is going to read rude and fanboy but it's not what I am intending..
Find someone with a iphone 4s and play with it. If you like it then wait for the next iphone cause it will not be all that much different. There will be changes but it will not stray that far away from what is out there now.
The reason I never got into the iphone.... The one stupid button.... I could not and did not want to get used to the one button option.
I love my ipad, but hate its one button also.

That being said I feel this s3 is a BEAST, but like all its super phone brothers and sisters it does not walk on water, and I'm sure that the new iphone will not be the second coming of Christ either.
Forget s3 or iphone and think android or iOS cause both phone are great it the operating system that you have to be comfortable with.

honest opinion? iphone 5 will be better than s3 at a hardware standpoint. itunes is a better market.
reasons i don't want an iphone: i like customizing, hacking, and being different. also, i prefer android os.

I haven't been a concrete user of android since the original Motorola droid aka OG Droid. After they retired that phone I went straight to an iPhone. I tested the water here and there with the HTC thunderbolt and bionic but I could never tear myself away from iOS. Then apple released the 4S...basically what Motorola did with the droid RAZR and RAZR maxx - it pissed off a lot of people that aren't complete iSheep. Then they rolled out iOS 5.shouldn't of been called ios six.0. I have finally had it with apple and switched to a galaxy nexus. I haven't tinkered with the gs3 yet, but based off of my nexus I will never go back to apple. Android is light years ahead of them. Buggy at times, but that's technology. Do yourself a favor and get the gs3 or even a nexus for pure android. If you love your smart phones AND WANT TO USE IT FOR SMARTPHONE TYPE THINGS (doing a little leg work to use it to its full potential), then there is no reason to cripple yourself with an iOS device. If you want an over priced gaming, multimedia, closed ecosystem etc device with last years specs that "just works"...well you get it by now. Hope this helped.

Biggest reason for me is customization. I like my phone to work the way I want for me not for the company. Other big reason for me is hard ware. Iphone has a dual core processor but it isn't near as powerful as my sg3. (my wife is rockin the 4s so I have compared them). Last reason (right now anyway) is 4g lte. (my wife actually stole my phone last night to shop online as my Internet is waaaay faster than her 3g.)

Those are my biggest reasons it is superior to the Iphone. Since the 5 is still all rumor can't be sure what it will actually be like.

Because iPhone takes ideas from Android, then claims theyre "GREAT INNOVATORS" and the sheep applaud it like crazy. I'm sorry, but the iPhone is over hyped.

I have lots of iOS items including iPods and iPads and a few Macs, but I just can't fall in love with the iPhone no matter how hard I try.

All of my friends have iPhones and ever since I brought home the S3 last week, for the first time ever, they're all extremely interested in my Android phone.

And the first thing they say, hands down, every time they hold the phone and flick through the home screens for the first time: "I wish my phone had widgets and I could find important stuff with a few swipes," or something like that.

If you want a phone that fits your lifestyle and your needs, get an Android phone.

You should get an iPhone5 if you need people to convince you of cell phone purchase decisions.

It's a simpler kind of phone for a simpler kind of mind.

I like your comment, now let's hope my iPhone 4S using wife never sees that I liked it! :-X

this is totally just based on rumors but I've heard that the specs on the iPhone 5 will be inferior and outdated to most phones that are out right now, including the s3 and its supposed to come out later this year after the s3 release? aren't phones supposed to progressively improve?? guess thats not how apple works, you can see that with the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s :p

4.8" 720p screen. BAM!

The iPhone5 won't support true HD resolution (it's rumored to be 1138 X 640). And the screen won't be "bigger", it will just be taller. Meaning that if things looked small before, it's not going to look any larger with the new screen. Other than watching media, the taller screen won't make the kind of impact that a truly larger screen would -- you might have less scrolling on web pages and another row of icons, but it won't make your fonts look any bigger.

Oh, and you'll have to repurchase all of your existing apps unless you're okay with black bars. Niiice!

Shouldn't you wait until they announce the iPhone 5 first? At this point, it's only rumors.

God I hate threads like this. I'm not trying to be an ass but why don't you just wait for the next iPhone to launch and make a big boy decision about what to buy. Then you can convince yourself!!

I agree. I read, I research, I explore my current wants and then move forward. I am not a salesperson and I refuse to convince anyone to make a decision.

I agree, I like the OSX, I cannot stand iOS though at all. I find it boring and limited. That's just my opinion of course. But more than anything else I just find it absolutely boring to deal with.

Cause the 5th iPhone is already out. it's call the 4S. Why would you want dated tech? :p

I still wish all these iSheep would stop referring to the next iPhone or the 6th generation as the iPhone 5. The GS3 is the third generation, the 6th generation iPhone maybe be call the the 4GS or the iPhone 6 or even just iPhone.

But the 5th iPhone was released last year.

My first and only smartphone was the DROID x which I loved. I have been reading rumors and specs on the gs3 since March. I have always thought I would end up with the phone. Recently I have been reading a lot on the iphone 5. I understand that these answers will be incredibly biased but assuming all the rumors of the iphone 5 are true, why should I get the gs3? Thanks!

The reason to go iPhone is the same as it was last year - if you prefer the Apple/itunes ecosystem. The next iPhone will likely have a bigger screen and LTE, and maybe they'll sneak in an as yet unannounced feature for iOS 6 the same way they added Siri last year at the iPhone launch (though hopefully the new feature won't be half-baked like Siri is).
The SGS3 is a great piece of hardware, Android has really matured with ICS and JB, and the google ecosystem is excellent.
The one big aspect I like about the SGS 3 compared to every other Android phone is that since Samsung stuck to its guns and released essentially the same hardware for all carriers, and it will sell well over 10mm units, is that a reasonable peripheral market will likely emerge. That is one area Android can't compete with the iPhone - there are 1000s of iPhone peripherals out there - though with the new size of the iPhone 5 and new connector, they will have to re-establish themselves.

I honestly don't know why everyone's turned into jerks here every time someone asks a question about the iPhone.

Because in general, that's what most Android fanboys are....jerks. Constantly berating their own fellow members for even contemplating going to a better experience. They are either jealous, have nothing better to do or can't afford apple products. Apple users are NEVER worried about android customers and their experience. Why? Because they are satisfied with their product and it works the way it should. Android users are the ones always looking to jump ship to something else. Don't blame them, as google changes hardware/software more than a toddler soils pampers. Buy an android device today, it's successor is out in 3-4 months. Buy an Apple product, you're guranteed at least the 1 and a half years of the contract before you're eligible to early upgrade.

Why are there so many android tablets that no one buys? Why are there so many android phones? Many of them suck in regards to hardware and the OS are filled with bugs/glitches. Hence, the constant updates of froyo, gingerbread, ice cream sandwich, jelly bean, eclair, slurpee and whatever else google wants to name them. The updates fix one issue, only to introduce others. Freezing/lagging/data connection drops/phone call quality/battery life/voice recognition/volume etc. It's the same forumula which will never change. Google has the idiots in their back pockets. Continue to release numerous software versions/phones and people will get excited. Folks will buy the phone, love it for a few weeks, realize the crippling weaknesses of the devices, whine and complain on forums about how this promised breakthrough android device will be the "IPHONE Killer" just to jump to another device and start the love/hate frustration all over again.

Another question.....why is there always a potential "Iphone killer", but never Apple users say "Hey, this next Iphone will be the Android Samsung, Motorola, HTC killer!"??? Because Android is ALWAYS trying to catch up to the apple user experience, fluidness, functionality and technology.

If you want something that works, can guarantee that it will be relevant in 2 years, has superior build quality, is a PHONE first handheld computer second, then get the iphone.

If you want headaches, a non relevant device in a year, gradual slowing of performance over time, bugs, issues, promises of updates that don't come, and altogether cease support, get one of the million available android devices that are out.

So many speak on how many android devices "crush" apples devices when it comes to performance specs. Again, does it really matter if the user experience lacks? Fanboys love specs, smart consumers love design, ingenuity and success.

Android users are those guys raving about horsepower. Apple users are the ones who accept that horsepower isn't everything, and you can still get there faster and more efficiently with less.

You can trust me. I've owned the original Droid, Incredible and Thunderbolt.

Just make the right choice the first time and be done with it. Go with apple, no matter if it's the 4S or the 5. Or in a couple of months, you'll be on another forum posting this same question.

Glad I could help

Just because there's a successor doesn't mean the older product is useless.

Not all android phones have bugs like you suggest.

The iPhone is a phone first, unless it has antenna issues (i'm looking at you iPhone 4)

By the way, you seem to have Android users and Android fanboys confused. A user uses the phone, a fanboy yells from the top of a mountain "Buy this phone or I will smite you."

And in regards to the catching up thing. Notification center, widgets, LTE, multitasking (i think), and a whole bunch of other things i don't feel like looking up.

Now, please stop trolling.

And yet Steve who needs a job created an account, from the looks of it, just for the purpose of saying he could help. Nice pat on your back bro, hope your arm is ok.

I will give the OP one better. Over the past year, I have owned all of the operating systems on the market that are or were relevant: iOS, Android, WP7, BB and WebOS. Out of these, I liked WebOS the best. But we all know where they are today. Second to that it has to be WP7, it's fluid, it does FB, Twitter and LinkedIn without the need for apps. It also doesn't require the processing power that the Android army needs.

iOS, while it may work, it still has it's bugs and unfortunately those pesky little bugs typically have to wait around a year before they get exterminated since Apple only issues one update per year. Beyond that the phone does have good quality build. But then you have the icons that you cannot do anything other than dump in folders. You also stand the change of not getting the full update, even though the phone can support it. Steve says that the updates only make it better, really? No they do not. iOS is working themselves into being a highly fragmented OS. Look at the original iPad, no more updates for it. Look at how old it is. Nothing more coming its way. Unlike Android devices that may not get the "official" update, chances are good that your Android device will see other updates through other channels if you do take the time to learn how to apply it.

Does Android require more horse power? You betcha, not going to deny that. But they also do not lie to you telling you that your new spanking iPhone has a 1gz processor when in actuality only has an 800Mhz Processor. Forget the RAM.

According to apple they will not release their new update to all their devices because it simply cannot suport it. My OG Droid, was able to do turn by turn nav, while doing all its push notifications, play music all at once. You are telling me that the 800mhz on the iPhone is subpar?

Really it all boils down to what you, the OP wants and finds compelling about a device. No one should try and convince you as to what to buy. Look at the different choices, I will say that if you are going the route of Android, watch out Sensory Overload. Why? Because there way too many choices. The majority of them are all the same but different mfrs.

The "premiere" being Samsung and their Galaxy phones. Are you a gamer? Look for something that has the Tegra chip in it. If you are social butterfly look at the S3 from Samsung, though note that a lot of the features will only apply if you have other S3 friends. Do you want a physical keyboard? Consider a BB. Do you love your apps? Consider either Android or iPhone.

In the end they are all gadgets and providing that they do what YOU want it to do, then there is nothing else to consider other than deciding who you are going to throw your money at. Are you someone who enjoys being geeky or wants to start getting your hands dirty and your mind thinking and keeping it active, consider Android. If you are a MSFT fan, really look at the Windows Phones, but I'd say wait, since the current phones, due to hardware requirements, will not work with the upcoming Windows 8. Which is also going to be a totally different can of worms. The same is not true for the apple devices, which can clearly support all the functions of iOS 6 but refuse to allow it on other devices that they deem too old to live.

Steve also comments that the Android is very buggy etc, well guess what, it's no where near as mature as iOS. So if he wants to start comparing one to the other, he really should get his head out of apple's orifice and do some reading himself.

In closing, I am not a fan of any one OS or any one mfr. I am writing this on a MacBook air, for work, I have a Mac Mini. For play I have an Alienware. For phones, all the OS and I switch back and forth. My current phone is a WP7 and for the time being I am loving it. It will ultimately be you, the OP, who will be spending his money, no company will be paying you to buy their equipment, so go with what you want and find more to suit your needs or wants.

Please don't EVER let Android hardware "catch up" to the iPhone. I'll have no alternatives left.
