"Crackling" Earpiece

guys, thanks for the responses.

its very encouraging to hear some arent having this issue.

my bluetooth calls are crystal clear and i wont likely hold the phone to my ear much but I do want it to be clear when I do.

i'm in no real rush for a replacement so I'll keep trying over the weekend

i'm in central florida

Please report back after you get the new one. I'm holding out hope that it may just be a bad batch that got mishandled somewhere along the way.

Went to RS the manager that sold me the EVO yesterday was there he looked at my phone and heard the noise coming from the earpiece and said you need a new one. He went to the back came back with one that some old guy returned cause he couldn't figure out how to use. We swap the phones and everything sounds so nice on it. I was in and out in like 20 minutes. Nice guys working at the RS I go to all the time. :)

ive had it. my first call was to sprint and i thought it was just the system being so bad too.
happend a short time during the second call. first bluetooth was great but second bluetooth call it happened again for a few seconds.

I am having the same problem and I am convinced it is a hardware issue. If I turn the volume to 50% it goes away.. max it out and it comes back. It is recreatible on EVERY call. It sounds like either the speaker it truly distorting, or it is vibrating very slightly against some plastic or something.

I am also having this issue "crackling earpiece". It sounds like the earpiece speaker is a little blown, or vibrating a little much. I bought my phone at RS, but today I was near a Sprint repair shop and decided to stop in, the tech told me the phone was fine. Then one of the sales associates told me to to call the phone from her phone, and she heard the same issue. I am going to bring it back to the RS and look for an exchange.
I am in New Orleans.

yes, same problem for me. rattling/cracking/distortion on every word, every call, ever since i got the evo. took it to sprint, they all thought i was crazy, no one heard it. they performed a soft reset (taking battery out while phone on), it fixed the issue, for about 5 calls. after that, same problem, if not worse. already talked to sprint 611, they said they would waive the $35 fee, i'll get a replacement Monday of this week (6-8-10). I hope it's fixed. I can't stand talking on my phone like this.

If this is such a wide issue, think it could be fixed by software OTA update, or replacement phones?

Same exact experience here. If volume is maxed the speaker sounds distorted. Turn the volume down 2 clicks or so and the sound goes away but is now to low for me to really hear the other person well. Mods any chance of this getting a sticky?

I had this same exact problem on my Hero. Almost sounded like the speaker grill was vibrating against the speaker itself. After a week it went away. Don't know if the grill moved, or maybe even the brand new speaker needed to be broken in.

I'm still getting the noise on most calls.

From time to time, I catch a break and it's not there but it is driving me crazy

I'm having the same issue. I didn't notice it initially because I normally use a bluetooth. However, once I saw this thread, I tried using the earpiece and it happens. I'm going to give it a few more day, then I'm going to contact Wirefly.

i got it too. BB, memphis, friday release batch

centering my ear in a spot to hear good is also an annoyance, im thinking about using my free bt headset bb gave us.

The thing is... when i first set up visual voicemail, the recorded demo woman was LOUD and CLEAR absolutely no crackling.. but when i made phone calls, thats all i heard was crackling.. is it something to do with carrier to carrier line quality??

Let me know how they do for you. I am in the same boat.. bought through an online site, and having the earpiece problem (and the screen loose in the bottom left corner by the home button problem) and want to know what they do for ya!!

I get crackling if my body is in between the evo and bluetooth. Like my left pocket.... If i hold my phone out in the open, I can hear perfectly. Not sure if the wireless quality is really bad or what, but it needs to be fixed. Hardware version 0002.

Same here... even traded my handset in for another unit thinking it was a defect of just that unit, and my second handset has the same problem

I don't get a constant crackling, but I do get A LOT of distortion if I am trying to talk at the same time as the person on the other end. Is this what you're referring to? And if not, is anyone having this issue as well?

I also seemed to have some crackling when my phone volume was turned up full. I back it down one segment and it seems MUCH better for me.
