Critiques for Pixel 3 and Android P

I like Linus. These issues don't bother me too much. But Pixel, while being the best Android/Google experience, still has a lot of room to improve from a hardware standpoint.

Oh no, I did indeed watch it entirely. His "compliments" are back handed, IMO.

His criticisms sound juvenile and entitled. Having criticisms of Google Assistant when it's 1) industry leading and currently considered the gold standard and 2) the foundation of the Pixel brand, is beyond my understanding. Every other assistant is fighting for second place.

Complaining about what the screen display settings are labled..?? "Display profiles have stupid names.." this man sounds like a child on a playground somewhere. This is supposed to be considered professional and taken seriously..? Really..?

This exactly.

So much so that Android Central awarded the Galaxy Note 9 as phone of the year and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro best phone camera of the year.

As has been discussed in the forums, on Reddit, in the comments on AC and in the comments on other sites, etc, Android Central has lost ALL credibility, especially regarding their reviews and even their editorials. They lost their integrity, which means nothing else matters. They could name the iPhone 5C as the phone of the year and that would hold the same amount of weight as naming the Note 9, or anything else. The Android Central blog has become nothing but noise - and this isn't news - it happened two years ago. We don't use Android Central as a source to be cited for the exact same reasons that we ignore BGR, Forbes, etc.

There are several valid critiques of the Pixel 3 and of Android Pie that can be made. This guy did a horrible job of presenting his case. These are both true statements.

^This. There were some valid criticisms, poorly presented and thoroughly neutered by his air of arrogant whiny entitlement.

Yes. And that is why he is where he is and you are where you are. Because he did a horrible job and because your statements are true. Excellent.

So who do you guys trust as good reviewers? Ones that put the Pixel 3 and 3XL ahead of all others based on them subjectively having the best cameras even if they lack other hardware features other OEMs are implementing and are overpriced? The big YouTube reviewers also placed other phones ahead of it as their POYs as well (MKBHD, AA, Mr. Mobile, Dave Lee, etc.) such as the Note 9, Mate 20 Pro, and OP 6T. Pixel wins some awards for having the best camera but rarely best overall package.

Most people in these types of nerd forums vote with their wallets as most cannot buy more than one phone anyway to do proper long-term comparisons. So they are always partial to their own phones.

The Reader's Choice poll done by AC (not the editors which others have already said are non-credible) also have the Note 9 first for what it's worth and sure you can poo-poo the validity of that poll too.

I don't put my faith in any reviewers. As I stated in an earlier post. I buy my devices early on. Way too early for any normal reviews. I've bought every device I've ever owned that way. I do watch some of them and some are quite entertaining but to make a decision.....no.

I still mostly trust anandtech. They don't love the Pixels, but they also don't do click bait reviews. The latter is more important. Anand does objective comparisons and shares their data publicly, so as to make it transparent and repeatable.

Mr. Mobile is one of the worst things that ever happened to androidcentral, and the industry in general. I'm having a hard time understanding why he's being listed in a string of appeals to authority - he has no credibility. His interest is not to spread knowledge or help consumers make informed decisions, it is solely to generate clicks and every time there is a conflict between those missions, revenue wins. It's a side effect of being a sell out, same as almost all of the rest of AC's staff.

Appeal to authority is already a very weak position to take, and is already a logical fallacy. Appeals to the weakest of pseudo-authorities are worse.

I have no objection to anyone or everyone thinking that the note 9 is the best Android flagship for the most consumers. I probably agree with that. I do have a problem with basing that opinion on the illinformed rhetoric of clowns who will say anything for a penny.

I don't think any of them are much more than entertainers, but if I had to pick of the YouTubers you listed I would go with Dave Lee. He at least tries to speak from a fact based opinion at times vs something completely subjective. I can't think of one that is truly objective in their review style. It's mostly personal taste.

Samsung will win any public poll because.. numbers. There's just more people with Samsung devices on Android than any other OEM. Put Samsung against any OEM in a public Android poll and their numbers will win more times than not.

Speaking for myself, while I may feel the Pixel is first in class, I've got zero problems recognizing other great devices. Note 9 is a great device, I just believe it should be separated from the field because of the stylus and that handicaps the rest of the field. That puts it in a category of one, unless you want to count LG's attempt at functioning with a stylus.

Regardless, Pixel is always in the conversation as one of the best phones, if not the best, on either platform every year.

I would personally pick Huawei mate pro best of 2018 they did good job overall with the device.
the only issue is the trust and no support and warranty in US,and I personally dont trust them.
but phone just talking phone I think they did a great job

For full disclosure, these are Anandtech's recommendations for the current 2018 holiday season. Note that they do mention the current prices and outstanding value some phones offer.

He brought out issues he had with the device cant argue that. I'm not a follower of him or any of them . Is he the same with other devices ? Then if yes he's fair .

I don't follow him either, so I can't say if he is or isn't. But I know this one video was irritating as hell to listen too.. For me, at least. I don't think I'll be subscribing to his channel any time soon if he sounds like that in all his content.

Yes, that's their holiday recommendations article. What are you looking to indicate? I'm not sure of your point?

You indicated you agreed with a previous poster that you trust Anandtech for their reviews. I'm just showing their recommendations and what they consider are the best phones to get now. The point was that we were talking about the value of reviews and since Anandtech seems to be credible why not show it?
