This thread needs to get back on track right now.

Monster99105, if you are having any issues or still have questions about recovery that weren't answered, please post them and we'll make sure you get everything you need.

Monster has been well taken care of and is now running TR 1.7 and clockwork.

download both files
unzip both files
place both files on root
cut and paste code above but remember adb shell, su already gives you the # so dont copy and paste the # in adb shell terminal
there might be an error but it is acceptable
continue until the phone reboots and your done

You got it. When you give the final command to boot into recovery you should see the additional options in the menu right from the start.

I apologize if these have been answered.

Where do the backups go?

What all is actually backed up? I see data, cache, boot, system. I'm not terribly familiar with the directory structure. My main reason for asking.. I'm currently on the latest thundeROM. I want to backup, wipe and try out some other roms. When I do a restore, will everything be restored. ie.. apps, settings, etc.

The backups will be under a directory called "nandroid" on your SD card. Under that will be a directory called (I believe) "477mem" or something similar, and then individual directories with timestamp names for each backup. It is a bit confusing all the separate backup options in this recovery vs the CWM recovery, but, going by what that one backs up when you do one... it looks like the "nandroid + .android_secure" choice should be the one to do.

Yes everything is backed up but I think the call log and SMS messages but there is free software in the market to back up both. The other things not backed up wobe anything stored on the SD ie. Apps photos videos, onlyapps installed to the phone will be backed up. Another thing to keep in mind if you switch to a cwm recovery you may not be able to restore a nandroid until you go back to the thunderc recovery.

But, the links to those apps on the SD card would be retained I assume. So, when I restore, those apps will still be in the app drawer. No need to do a titanium backup (although I might anyway for safety's sake).

Thank you both.

Hypothetically yes, but I like NASA they dont like hypotheticals they like redundancy and sure things. Yes in theory but never tried it.

when i get to step 2# of the adb shell command, "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image", it tells me no such file or directory. what am i missing?

Remedial Nandroid Backup Question

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. We talk a lot here about doing nandroid backups. Heck, I've done them myself and restored from them. My question is which flavor of backup should I be doing and why? With thunderc, whe have Nand backup, Nand backup + .android_secure, Nand + ext backup, and Nand _ ext backup + .android_secure.

I have not set up an ext partition so I assume I can ignore that. I have moved applications to sdcard so I am guessing I need .android_secure. Thus I have been doing Nand backup + .android_secure.

Is this thinking correct? Should I be doing something else? Under what circumstances would you just take a nand backup? Only if you never move any apps to the sdcard?

Thanks in advance for shedding some light on this.

i figured out step 2, but when i get to step 4 "mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak", it tells me such file or directory, where is this file at?

Keep going. The move command is to rename the file. It's saying the file doesn't exist so you cant rename it. You're fine.

When this phone came out some had a file called install-recovery.sh while others didnt. This command was added because if those that did have the file didnt rename it (move command) then after they boot into recovery the first time it would return to stock recovery.

tried to get do this, followed all the steps to a t and now i get this when restarting

finding update package...
E:can't find command file CACHE:recovery/command

this shows in the LG recovery. Any idea what happened?

Are you able to boot into the phone or no. Also are you running v9 or the latest vc update?

i'm running v9. rooted with z4 fine.

I played around and tried the reset and clear cache from the stock recovery and after the second try of clearing the cache, it booted back up. Lost all my apps but superuser. root stayed intact too. It works fine now. I think i'll wait a bit before trying it again.

I am having a problem trying to flash ThundeROM 1.7. I have 1.2 version of the recovery. I have copied the zip file into the root of my sdcard. When I select the flash option, the folders of my sdcard are shown. I have more folders than can be displayed on the screen, but no zip files. If I press the down vol key, the cursor goes to the bottom of the screen and will not scroll any further. Is there a key combination to allow me to see more of the root folder?

back out of the flash page, toggle usb storage to on, and copy off everything but the flash your trying to install. No there is not a key combo to scroll further, just remove the other files, flash the rom and and copy everything back.
