Cyanogen 7

I just installed it this afternoon and like it. However, just now I had it plugged into the charger and tried to turn off the phone. Instead of turning off, it rebooted. I thought maybe it just doesn't shut down when it's plugged in so I unplugged it and tried again. This time it shut down properly but when I plugged it in to charge it powered on again. I rebooted into Recovery and tried the shutdown option there but it rebooted again. Maybe there's something about this in the XDA forums but right now I'm going to go to bed so I'll have to research it tomorrow.

One thing that I did not see mentioned in this discussion yet is that tethering does not yet work. Give it time with the weight of an official build it's only a matter of time!

Does this include Wireless Tether or Wi-Fi Tether?

With CM7 you can't charge with phone off. Not sure if its a bug or by design.

Ok - was on it all last night after just going ahead and importing to google my backup assistant file. Lost about 54 contacts - assuming doubles that didn't come in (and I'm assuming lost, cause I backed up 318 and only 262 came through in google). Regardless - some things that I'm really not fond of, and maybe can point out fixes or "yeah you can't do that".

- Can't dial by contact's name - have to go into contact?
- No puzzle unlock? (really a bummer)
- Pin required to be entered every time the phone is unlocked - the past has required the puzzle (or whatever you have set) unlock every time but the pin is only required once every 15 minutes or so (whenever my exchange times out I believe) - thoughts? You can set it to not lock for up to 30 minutes, but then if you accidentally hit the button in your pocket, your leg has free reign of your phone.

These are just a quick few - I better get back to work and let you guys have this, but I'll check back in hopefully to just check for solutions and not add more issues that I don't like. Thanks again, guys.

p.s. - two more things... Backlight notifications (soft buttons were lighting up when my phone is "sleeping", and I don't normally have that set). And lastly I can't remember... I'll be back.

it's a built in notification setting (you cant turn it off). Everytime you get a notification, the softkeys light up

as for you other questions:

not sure what you mean by you cant dial by contact name

no puzzel lock built in (no biggie)

are you trying to turn off the PIN? Because you can under settings > location & security > set up screen lock > select "none

I used to not like google controlling my contacts until I took a solid few hours and organized everything on my google.com/contacts. It's still in "beta" but it allows u to merge data, import address books, and creates a centralized more reliable place to keep my contacts.

I'm a rom/kernel whore and need to re-flash a lot, without this it would be almost impossible to get my phone back on track (since it is a PHONE, need it to make calls) in reasonable amount of time.

You can ALSO use "syncmypics" app to download your contacts photos via facebook/twitter, cache them to your SD, and link them to your google.com/contacts. Then your photos are there once and for all instead of needing a contact data feed from facebook or another photos link/sync service.

Seconded. Taking the (very small amount of) time to learn the Google contacts process is well worth the effort; it is both predictable and reliable. The other outstanding feature is the "flashback" service whereby you can go into your contacts web page and recover lost/deleted contacts from a specific moment in your past. This proved amazingly useful to a friend who somehow managed to pocket-delete their entire contact list and didnt realize it happened until every trace was gone from the phone. When the verizon "backup assistant" has that kind of smarts I will give two bits about it not working on CM7.

I am apparently not the only one annoyed by the BLN... As for the dialing process, in the old TW dialer if you punched out a name or a few digits of the number a list of matches would jump up... this dialer has no such feature. And the PIN is annoying since its timeout is tied to the lockscreen timeout, and if you are using Exchange security the pin is obligatory. In the past, the pin would only activate after 30 minutes of idle, and if it wasnt active the normal lockscreen would take over. This isnt possible in CM7, which is a shame.

I am looking forward to a little more refinement from CM nightlies now that the Fascinate code is baked in. And (not to be a pessimist) but I hope that the developers are taking note of these issues instead of spending all their time on overclocked kernels, concrete and aluminum themes and other bull***** that doesn't mean a thing to user experience past one person's taste.

+1000000000000000 to Google contacts back-up

I used to rely heavily on back-up assistant.... looking back, it really is garbage.

Set yourself up a gmail account, take some time to learn and organize google contacts, you will never look back

I don't really use Google Contacts. However, I use Outlook on my computer so I exported my contacts, imported them to Google, then synced with my phone. In the past I had trouble getting things to sync correctly between the three programs (more with the calendar than with contacts, but some then, too) so that's why I do it that way now. Still, if I make a change to a contact I have to change it on my phone and on my computer - but really that doesn't happen all that often. If for some reason I need to get contacts back on my phone I delete all the contacts on my phone, then repeat the export/import/sync procedure. Not ideal, but I haven't found a smooth transition between Outlook and Android for contacts and calendars so that's what I do (same procedure for the calendar, which admittedly happens more frequently).

What I ended up doing was keeping it plugged in to charge but turning off Wi-Fi and data. It charged to 100% overnight and about 20 minutes ago I turned the data back on for my phone, checked the free app on Amazon, read one email message, and now it's at 89%. I'll give it a few more days to acclimate itself and me to check out all the settings, as well as read up on it in the forums but that is a surprising drop in battery use.

did you calibrate your battery after flashing the rom/kernel? Sounds like your battery isn't synced properly

I cleared the stats when I installed the ROM but haven't run the calibration app yet. I'll try that when it recharges.

Read over on XDA you can choose which apps activate the soft button notification lights in Profiles. Assume you could have a Night profile with all of them turned off etc.

I reflashed last night as I was getting too many FCs - it was my restored apps/data from Titanium. I guess it might have been fine except the restore files are from a TW ROM, but I dunno its always caused issues so I don't think I'll be trying to use that unless I'm reflashing the same (or very similar) ROM. Big of a pain but stability > then saved settings. So so far its been a much smoother experience.

I also plan to calibrate the battery once it reaches 100% my only issue is trying to time the full drain to a time when I won't need the phone ;). I'll be trying the calibration app just to be sure.

Camera app replacements - I kind of liked the MIUI camera, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a better suggestion? I will check out 360 Camera.

I just reached 100% and ran the Battery Calibration app so we'll see how it goes. I'm reading through all the posts on XDA and came across yours over there - I think I'm running a day behind you on this process. :p

I downloaded the Calibration App and fired it up to set it up to alert me at 100% charge and it set my percentage to 100% without me touching anything. Now its pinned at 100% not sure how to rectify this. Did I just calibrate my battery to show 100% at 87% charge? I'll just work on I'm sure it'll be fine ...

what were the mV's at when it read 100%?

it should be around 4200 or so. If not... just do it again. It will erase the old bstats and make a new one

I would be curious to know if others have been experiencing the same in call volume issue.

Yes - I'm having this issue too, and while I'm being able to put up with more and more because of how quick and smooth this is over UKB 2.1, it's really a bother in an office where you can hear a cricket chirp. Any fixes for that out right now?

Another issue I have is when I pull my ear away from my phone - used to it would automatically turn the screen on. Now I have to hit the power button to be able to do anything on my screen. Is that something that can be adjusted - the only thing I saw was the proximity sensor always enabled (but seems like that more applies to landscape/portrait stuff)?

Someone answered me on here that the puzzle lock wasn't built in, but they didn't tell me if it was available as an add-on. Just wondering if there's a way to get it?

Also - Last modem I ended up with in doing this install (yeah - I had issues) is EB01 - what's the best way to ED04 and there is an odin file for EC09, right? And to clarify - there is not such thing as ED09, right?

I'm also curious in the "nightlie" update and using ROM manager and CW issues from this point forward too. Thanks guys.

Ah ok - that's odd it's reading 4186, but prior to starting the app I was in the 80s for percentile - how did it jump up to 100% in a matter of minutes. I guess I'll assume that the app readying 4186 means I am at as close to 100% as I can get, thanks.

* just rebooted at it now says I'm at 94% THAT makes more sense - running the app again to 100% :)

yes... EC09 has an ODIN file.... I will try to find the link, but if not, I will put it in my dropbox and post the link...

as for ED04, check this thread from XDA : [MODEM][ODIN][CWM]DL09, EA28, ED01, ED03, ED04 modems without ridiculous 100MB OTAs - xda-developers

very simple steps to get to ED04 using CWR

EDIT - here is the dropbox link to the EC09 modem: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25224224/ec09-modem.tar.md5

I skipped from ED01 to EC09 and thus far it is performing well. I recorded about a 15-20% increase in my 3G speeds (via running several Speed Test runs from same location) so that was impressive. GPS takes quite a while to lock, however (for me). Is ED04 good for GPS?
