So, a friend of mine is planning on getting Straight Talk - and I was wondering if the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will work properly on ST. She was planning on getting it from Amazon, since that's the cheapest place, but there's two different ones on Amazon: Amazon.com: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5833 Unlocked Smartphone - LTE 700 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - D5833 - International Version (White) - No Warranty: Cell Phones & Accessories and http://www.amazon.com/COMPACT-D5803...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4425960 - which one does she need for 3G support on ST? Additionally, are the sellers like Mobile Front on Amazon trustworthy? Since they currently have the white 833 for $375, which seems to be the cheapest.

Yeah, that's what I found out on XDA. But, I know that you need the 803 if you plan on using it on AT&T so you get LTE - but since ST only goes up to 3G and the only lack of non LTE bands on the 833 vs the 803 is "1700 (Band IV)" what I'm really curious is if that band is necessary for ST or not. Also, will I need to mess around in the APN settings for either the 803 or the 833 to work on ST?

Their website says you'll need to reconfigure the APN settings.

  • In order for your phone's Internet and Multimedia/Picture messaging to work when not using a Wi-Fi network, you will need to update your phone’s APN (Access Point Name) settings by following a few simple steps. These settings can be found on our website at apn.StraightTalkBYOP.com. Or you may visit your phone’s application store to download the Straight Talk Data Settings application (for iPhone® or Android™). This app will install the new APN settings.
  • Updating your APN settings does not guarantee MMS (Multimedia/Picture Messaging) will work. MMS is dependent upon your phone model’s limitations.

The D5803 is the correct one for AT&T. It gets LTE and all the other bands like it should. StraightTalk is now LTE. I'm using it on GoPhone which is a similar service and it's fine.
