Dark Brown Leather Back!

You should sell them.

Thought about it but actually anybody can do it. Right now the durability of the leather backs is in question. Some are claiming that they are only lasting 2 months.

That is a GREAT idea! I just ordered the "orange" leather back as part of the free battery/leather promo. My brother is a leather craftsman with his own saddle and bridle shop, so I'm definitely hitting him up after I get the 'Oompa-Loompa' cover. I may wind up with a black one after all!

I would have never thought to do this. Big Thanks to the OP!

Saddlemakers know what they're doing with leather! I work with a few and that was my first thought for redyeing the back if I don't like the color (I have the orange on the way too).

Do you take orders? xD

Seriously, I'd want to have something like that. It looks so unique!

Hope it lasts, though. The brown and red leather backs aren't so durable, and the black one holds up much better. The leather itself is pretty thin, though, so that might be why some didn't last very long.

I have had some success dying leather items in the past so my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to try one of these leather backs. This was originally the t-mobile brown color. Pleasantly surprised with the results. Gonna get some more leather backs and experiment further.

I posted this 5 months ago here and got so much feedback that I decided to make a short how to video. http://youtu.be/rUxyRdP_aEU

Very sharp looking op...the black leather back end to hold you like a champ and that tan doesn't. Did you use the black?

If what you're asking is if it was originally black.... No. Black ones won't take dye.

I think I'm gonna give it a try, you did an awesome job on that. Thanks for the video, helps a lot with the process

Thanks! Let us know how it comes out.

Well I gave it a shot and and everything came out well except for around the stitching. For some reason it seems like it bleed from the stitching area

It actually doesn't bother me, it looks pretty cool but do you have any idea what happened? Maybe because it wasn't new? Maybe not clean enough, I'm just not sure at this point

I had a similar thing happen when I dyed an orange back this week to dark brown. Right along the stitching, on both sides, was a darker streak. I found that another coat of dye (after letting the original two dry for about two days) darkened the rest of the cover to where it's no longer visible.

Feibings. Cost about $6.50 delivered through Amazon

Also, after the dye dried, I coated it (2 coats) with Kiwi Protect-All spray protector to seal it

PS: the orange back that I dyed was never used, so I don't think it was related to not being clean enough
