Data connection issue?

The data connection issue has happened to me once or twice since picking up the phone on launch day. There were similar problems with the Thunderbolt at launch and they lasted for months. The second official over the air update seemed to fix the problem for most users. That update had new radio code.

I suspect we'll have this problem on the bionic until the problem is reproduced by Moto and the code gets updated to fix it. I only hope it doesn't take as long as it took on the Thunderbolt (~ 4 months).

Add me to the list also. What moto forum is the OP referring to. I will go post over there too!!

Ill say it again. I believe one of the bloat apps is causing the issue. I say this cuz after I rooted and froze a lot of apps ive not seen this issue.

If that's the case, it'd be nice to identify the offending app so we can beat VZW over the head with it. :)

I saw the same issue on the thunderbolt running cyanogenmod. I think it's an issue with the 4g and new 3G eHRPD network.

Ive narrowed down the possibilities to any of the "social" apps that blur uses. These things are constantly syncing. Another possibility is any of the Vcast stuff.

Just my theory but again, im having good luck since freezing said apps.

Maybe the phone is having a hard time deciding to use 4g or 3g? i dunno, lol. I keep LTE turned off unless i know im going to need it and its available.

I don't have LTE in my area yet, so, I also have it turned off. My issues have been with wifi but I've fixed them. I really hope Google/VZW/Moto get it together and release an update for these issues.

Just exchanged the Charge for a Bionic on Friday due to the constant losing data connection issue. Loved just about everything with the Charge but couldn't deal with losing data connection 10-15 times a day. It happened once or twice with the Bionic but hasn't happened since I enabled data roaming. Got my fingers crossed that does the trick.

i had mine setup to shut data off at night, and that seemed to not bring it back...turned that feature off, and i havent lost my data connection yet

i posted about this on the other thread, but i have 3 different 4g phones on verizon and ALL THREE have had the same issue of losing the data connection entirely but my 3g phones would NOT drop their data connection ... tells me something is up with the 4g network .. verizon sent me a new thunderbolt and a new charge ... same result .... sure wasted a lot of money on phones that won't hold a steady internet connection :(

Strange the Droid charge has this issue as well. Is it the 4g radio, because my inc 2 never drops data. That's disappointing that the bionic does that. Don't own the bionic but seeing the data loss issue, and being a charge owner I had to comment. For me on the charge going in to airplane mode fixes it. For my gf who also has the charge, airplane mode does not fix her issue. She has to reboot to fix it. This is sad, I hope that Verizon can get this worked out. Plus most Verizon reps are usually useless, when it comes to telling them about a problem. They want to do a factory reset or order you a certified like crap not new replacement. :/

I am trying this and so far so good. I will report back with results

I am also finding that receiving a phone call is one of the triggers for data dropping out. FWIW, running on CDMA only.

I too noticed this yesterday. It's not as overall dropping the net connection CDMA only, but it still happens a few times per day where my Droid and wife's Eris as well as my work BBerry never lose their data connection (all in the same location, def a problem with the Bionic and i see i'm not alone with this thread as proof) .

There's a few major issues with the Bionic , that apparently are not an issue with the Photon , considering the photon is $99 - time to get myself and her each Photon's for less than the price of my single Bionic.

The issues that are a deal breaker at any price (no way i can go 2 yrs on this unless these issues are addressed by Moto but that's a huge gamble):

- data connectivity drops
- annoying buzz / hiss when using the line audio out
- horrible battery life with few apps installed (none that are sync'ing, no push notifications, only the Power Widget is running)

The Photon I need to test for the audio line out noise (with headphones) and from a friend of a friend, he is like me in a non Wimax area and has zero data issues. Supposedly he doesn't notice the audio issue but many folks don't utilize headphones are play material that really shows the noise, that's something i have to check out myself). His battery life is decent so he says.

Based on the above, i think i'm good with the Photon - and if the Epic Touch also at $99 ends up being better than the Photon - we can make a swap to the Epic Touch within the trial period.

Then other items that are more subjective but i can deal with (they will prob be the same on the Photon - the camera is so slow in focusing, video is very good save for the annoying changing in auto focus, yellows are mustard color at best, the dots in grey / white areas is annoying).

I can deal with the directly above issues but the audio, network, battery issues - those are not acceptable.

I also have all three phones and have had the same experience as Trigun. Bionic has been better than the other two.

I guess i must be lucky or something. I do not have any noises when listening to music with headphones. My phone is not dropping signal, my phone is really doing NOTHING wrong.

Im sure motorola will put out an OTA update to fix stuff. But it better not have a "root patch" with it or i wont accept the update.
