Data restriction feature not restricting at all

Hello!!.. I'm new, nice to meet you all!!..

I'm having an annoying problem on my Nexus 5.. I'm using an app, a game, which contains adds.. I disabled both data and wifi access for this specific app, but ads still pop up.. if I disconnect my phone from wifi and disable mobile data, then no ads show up, so I guess the android feature of restricting internet access for each app is not working..

Anyone else having this issue??.. how to solve it??

EDIT:

I found the problem!!.. it was an app called Xposed, in which I installed the module Minminguard, an ad blocker, that somehow was in conflict with the android feature.. once uninstalled Xposed and rebooted my phone, ads stopped showing up, so the data restriction feature is actually working well!!

When the ad pops up, immediately look at your data connection setting (which you will have off for this test).
If it's on, that's a bad app that needs to go. If it's off, you it might have put malware on the phone.
