One big issue for me is the camera. I read some reviews, for example, from the editors on this forum, and it was 100% unanimous that the Note 4 camera was better... Is there a HUGE difference between the two? Is it that bad?
Well... The Note 4 does have a better camera... but just because a phone doesn't have the best camera doesn't mean its junk. I've had this for 7 months now, so I have a pretty good feel on the things it does right and where it has a bit of issues.
There are really only two areas that I think the camera could be much better.... the focus speed, at times, can be a little bit sluggish. Not out to lunch, like my old Nexus 5, just a bit on the slower side. My wife has a G3, and that sucker is like a metronome when it comes to focusing... sometimes, its like the Nexus 6 goes "Hold on, I'm going to make sure I get this right..." and it ends up getting it right.
And in darker conditions, it seems loath to set the exposure really high.
Granted, both of these issues are mostly software related, and primarly caused by the Google Camera. There are some third party cameras out there that show a marked improvement in terms of focus reliability, and some also are a little more willing to crank things open a bit more when it gets darker.
That being said.... overall, I'm pretty pleased with the camera. It takes nice shots with a lot of detail and good colors. The HDR+ mode is legit... yes, it takes a little bit to take the shot, the the results are often extremely good. That mode is the Google Camera's most redeeming quality.
It might not be the best camera available, but it most certainly gets the job done pretty well.
