Are you using the cm7 RC for the latest builds or is it still the nightlys?

Sent from my LS670 using Tapatalk

A git pull is still a git pull regardless of what you name it. All the "RC" releases are, are a little change in the Makefile for that device that says "call this RC instead of NIGHTLY". Other than the version string there is no difference between a NIGHTLY and an RC compiled from the same source.

whats this a new kernel. v14 whats new with this one

CM7 is always ahead for new tests and whatnot. Check my github commit history for a changelog. v14 adds a small hack to enable AP Tethering in CM7.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about battery life with AOSP. l haven't used it so I can't say for sure, but with zefie's current nightly I'm running at 748Mhz and I've been off the charger for over 11 hours and I'm at 74%, with moderate usage.

The problem is most people expect me to work magic. This is not a phone, it doesn't have a 3 day idle battery life. People need to realize this is a PDA. More like an entire microcomputer, completely booting the Linux kernel, then running a Java-Based OS.

So, if someone manages to tweak their 2 hour laptop battery to run for 10 hours, then talk to me about battery life hacks :)
Because effectively expecting a something like 90% after 10 hours is about as reasonable. lol

Very well said. Most people don't realize this, I don't think.

The only smartphone I seen with extended battery life was a blackberry. And even then its shorter than a dumbphone, of course.

There is a sacrifice between features and reliability (in both OS and battery).
Maybe in another 20 years... lol

GitHub Source

Does anyone know what's changed in the new build nothing's on the front page yet

There is a link on the home page to the source zefie uses. Follow that link to github, and read the current commit statements. That is where he provides comments as to what he has done.

I was by no means complaining. Quite the opposite, in fact. I'm loving the battery life on my phone these days. To be quite honest it lasts longer now, overclocked, than it did when I first got the phone. I used to have to charge it half way through the day, now I can unplug it right when I get up in the morning and not have to worry about it dying on me during the day.

for those of you experiencing the reboot with wifi tethering (on the power widget), you may want to check your overclock settings. i had the exact same issue when i had it set to 805mhz, once i lowered it to 768mhz, no issues since.

this has been mentioned before. thanks Zefie for your work!!

So am I reading the github notes right that you have changed something with Bluetooth? I am very excited if it works, need to charge my phone before flashing though.

Thank for all of your had work Zefie!!!

sorry but cant find it anywhere... wasnt there an apk for the visual voicemail? I miss that in TRom. :(

Help would be much apreciated

Bluetooth can't be used for calls, I can use by bluetooth headphones for listening to music. Same situation as aosp. It is just really crappy audio quality on calls, I wish I was smarter and could fix this.

Wait. So how do we know what the new updates fix and stuff. On the first post u stopped in the 17/3/2011 I don't know what has been modified and if its worth it to change back to it

Yeah, zefie likes to tell us what's coming soon, as well as what's out. (It's real nice to know what's on the horizon, and it makes us all anxious!!!). 216 will release tonight, methinks.

he went from letting us know what's on the horizon to keeping us guessing :) either way, i heart updates!

I'm not sure if your post was meant to be sarcastic or you are asking a serious question, but either way the answer is quite simple: reading comprehension.

Zefie is doing an incredible job (FOR FREE) to allow us to be able to use the latest and greatest Gingerbread elements that are incorporated into CM7. He is customizing it for the Optimus S a phone which doesn't have top-tier hardware or tons of memory. Rather than complain that an Changelog isn't fully updated, why don't you just read posts that were made on the date of the latest build to understand what is included and what issues folks are having; Or, better yet, click the donation link under Zefie's profile and show him some love for making the Optimus S able to do more today than the Epic can.

Andybkn, my post is not directed at you, but your post (quoted above) is a great example of the plethora of repeat questions being asked in this thread; all of which could be answered if the poster actually took five minutes to read a few pages back.

If people aren't willing to take the time to understand what they are installing on their device, should they really be installing it at all ?

Agreed. Check his github if you want to know what the commits are. It's my understanding he's compiling CM7 for us but might not be using it as his rom. It's no one's responsibility to provide a list of changes. Look in the tracker, check the git, flash it yourself. Zefie is providing very regular updates after he basically said "I quit" so we should all appreciate that. We're big boys and girls, we can figure out if something has been fixed or not.

Sorry but both of these are fail posts.

If you take the time to read like you suggest to people it states in this thread, http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...s-hacks-forum-please-read-before-posting.html, that you should update the title and provide a change log.

Chef's, If you start a thread with the intent of posting a ROM, please use the following format:
If you update your ROM, please edit the title of your first post, and include a change log.

Hey guys quick question for future reference and for people with issues.
I have this rom flashed and its working flawlessly. When an update to this rom comes out, do I need to format system/data, flash the rom and then gapps or can I just flash the latest update right over? Just asking for when the next update comes out

Usually you just:
  • (edit) nandroid backup
  • Clear Cache,
  • Clear Dalvik Cache
  • Format /system, (DON'T FORMAT DATA), (if using CWMA, format /system is under "mounts and storage"....if not using CWMA, or if not comfortable with that option, just flash the Debug .zip file in the 1st post).
  • Flash ROM
  • Flash gapps

When the ROM update includes a version update, (2.3.2 to 2.3.3, for example), then most say you should format data too....although last time I seem to have gotten away without doing that...
