So no task manager at all? Just let the apps that run in the background run? Does this not kill battery life? Sorry if that is a dumb question.

This is actually a good question, no reason not to ask it, smart phones don't work like computers so i'm glad you at least asked.

Apps don't "run" in the background like you might think. They just get suspended in memory and stop using any power (aside from power it normally uses to keep the phone on). When you use a task killer, your phone needs to continuously keep reopening + processing those files which *does* kill battery life. Some processes will keep relauching automatically, then you keep killing them, then they keep relaunching and draining the battery. In many cases, people create their own battery life problems by using task killers (and then they start using the task killer even more trying to "fix" the problem...)

^ this...sometimes, more below

I actually strongly disagree, I use a task manager for killing thing's that DONT need to be running..

I don't mean any and all i dislike... thing's like youtube. When I had a very good stablilty of 1.6.2 going. I could go a good 18 hour's just normal texting without my battery dying quick. It would slowly drop.

One night I hit youtube and I fell asleep... woke up from 91% to 56% battery. This is with it "closed" as you would say. NEVER happened before, I open my task manager every once in awhile to see what's running. Without further explination's... It was youtube that killed it.

There once was a need for diapers, when you weren't old enough to wipe your own ass, now you can wipe your own ass, so you don't wear diapers.

There once was a need for task killers, when pressing menu>>applications>>running applications was too difficult for people or people were just too lazy, now manage apps is on the home screen menu, it's kind of like being old enough to wipe your own ass.

You can strongly disagree all you want, but android has a great garbage collection system, and using a task manager mucks that all up.

Sent from my Gingerbreaded NookColor using Tapatalk...

NOW, android's garbage collection is working great but in the earlier releases, i definitely noticed a difference in performance if i let too many apps just get backgrounded.

To add to this whole thing, don't B and KS have their own task management add ons to this rom, i remember them adding it to the first releases of TR.

Alright kids.... just because you disagree with mine, doesn't mean... your right. :| A TK work's for me and save's me battery... I don't care...

Your just mad because I'm not part of the crusade... Define me crazy, but I just saved me 30% of my battery.

Btw... this is all I have to do Click >> tasks >> X, done. (its on my home screen...)

Since, I have had two... very stupied, smartass replies.

I am still stuck with a problem... and if anyone (besides K n B) read it fully... they would see I don't have a task manager right now. As too... another mandatory thing to do when a new Rom update comes...

if your battery and phone run the way you want..then keep doing what ur doing..for those who don't use task killers bc what you have learned etc then keep enjoying ur phone same for those who use task killers.

when it comes down to it. its all about personal pref...

might wanna keep this thread on track..

so far i find this 1.8 is running great. and great batt life...i use my phone hard, so with just using cachecleaner and even accleaner. i get about 36+ hrs before having to charge.

I think what you are saying is fine. Judicious use of task killers is fine.

Some inexperienced folks just go ahead and kill everything they don't recognize and that could lead to a lot of churning. That's not desirable.

However, I don't care how good your process management or garbage collection is, if you have an app that is not performing properly it can drain resources. Doesn't mean that app is useless. Just that you shouldn't leave it running when you don't need it. Killing that type of app is fine.

Thank you, that's how I do... I don't use it for, to kill everything I see. I just kill thing's that aren't killed. Ex. Youtube.

It was running all night and it was drainning my battery.... Don't use a task killer if you don't KNOW! and I mean KNOW!!! What your doing... I know not to kill android.system lol.... or Google services framework, etc.. etc... I do kill Youtube, Dolphin, Google Voice, games... Anything I know what the App is and everything around it...

Android is a OS just like Windows... They both have flaw's, but a task manager and the right knowledge leads to good performance and nifty battery.

If Android is a perfect OS with a godlike garbage dump, as (theses guys) say... then Windows would be extinct. Period.

ALSO I still have bad battery problem... I think I will try a rewipe n flash.. again.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't criticizing you by telling you what I think, I was simply giving you my opinion.

On the other hand, if you need to look out for runaway apps, WatchDog is good for that. I just let the garbage collector do it's thing. To each his/her own. Personalization is what draws many to Android.

Don't take comments personally, and try to keep it clean in here.

You just earned my respect.

So, is there something I"m missing with rebuilding the framework for this? (basically, I want this theme, but with a circle battery icon set..) but when I decompile, and recompile it, basically it causes my phone to boot-loop...

Whats whacked, is that from that point, I actually have to restore a nandroid to get it happy once again... I'm pretty certain I've tried clearing the cache, and dalvik...

Any thoughts?

Edit: also, I see that I have a fairly big downloadfile.apk in my /cache directory... any thoughts on that?

figured out the downloadfile.apk was a failed market download.

I don't think you will get much help... Only because this is THERE ROM. An they have a Lego Rom for that...

I wasn't asking to release anything... I was asking to get some guidance as to what I might be doing wrong...

(note: I did this quite sucessfully under TR 1.6, and actually with Nrom previously...) I have just had some weird issues with recompiling things and getting them to work on this rom... (not to mention the deodexed stock rom I'd been putzing with previously)...

Misunderstood. Sorry.

I'm getting a corrupt file error when I try to update during the verification:

E:Corrupt File:
system/lib/libopencore_common.so
E:Verification Failed

I successfully updated to VD, 1.8, and the latest Custom recovery. When I go into about phone, everything appears correct, but once I reinstall Sprint Apps (I like telenav), the about screen says I am on 1.6.2, Android version 2.2.1, and the notification bar says Sprint instead of ThunderRom. Is this an issue? Should I not use the SprintApps on this?

Finally found a post buried about not having an updated Sprint Apps package... Is this still in the works? Is their any easy way for me to get telenav back? I like to start fresh when their is a new update so I do not have a nandroid backup with it installed.
