For those who are coming from 1.6.2 with custom recovery and do not want to lose layout and apps:
1. make a nandroid backup
2. Reboot and once phone is b back on run lgupdater tool.
3. Once update is done and phone reboots, immediately reboot into recovery.
4. Restore your 1.6.2 backup
5. clear cache and dalvik cache
6. Flash 1.7
7. Enjoy.

can i download 1.6.2 somewhere because to me this seems like the easiest way to update to VC

If you are rooted but not running a custom rom this will still work, just you will be backing up your stock system rom instead of a 1.6.2 rom but still follow all the instructions. All this method does is enable you to keep your /data partition which is all the user installed apps.

yea i wanted to do it becuase its so much easier then unrooting and rerooting and all the fun stuff

I just wanted to say again how much I'm enjoying 1.7. It looks clean, runs plenty fast and I seem to be getting better reception and battery life with VC. Hats off to the developers.

Non-techy question. Why the name Thunderom? I mostly ask because there is also the thunderc recovery. Just wondering what the reason for "thunder" is.

Love the ROM and all the help here!

looks like its time to jump back to thunder since lego hasn't been updated!

apparently i'm on baseband ls670mv8 ...so v8? can someone show me where i should start off looking for updating to VC and if I am actually on v8 if that matters bc the thread i've seen says from v9 to vc

edit: oh and whatsup with all the roms being unstickied?

Im thinking the LG hang issue might be due to the rom? I flashed to CM7 just to check and see if I had the same issue, and it boots up fine every time. With TR1.7 I have to mess around forever to get it to boot past the LG screen. Once up and running, it works great, but that LG screen lag is killing me.

Good question, I have not seen anything about going striaght from V8 to VC. Im thinkin you will need to update to V9 first.

Zefie's instructions here:

I think if you run LG updater it'll take you to VC from V8. Assuming you have a custom recovery installed you should be okay.

You might be right, but that scares me a little bit. Seems like there is an order of things for a reason. Would be curious if anyone has tried V8 to VC.

sorry won't be me:p as you can see i'm too noob to be the first to do something like that!

after a little more research i may just upgrade to v9 and stay there for a while.any people in this thread having the logo brick problem? not that big of a problem but still....

I used the quote "Chaos Method" to upgrade to VC from V9.

It was simple and straight forward but, I did encounter the logo brick during this procedure. BUT it was while performing step 7. So, I just turned the phone completely off, took out the battery at this point, reinserted it and held HOME, DOWN VOL., and POWER to get to recovery and then wiped data, cache, and dalvik. Then flashed TR1.7 Everything has been perfect ever since. I have powered down all the way (not just reboot) and have no logo hangup or brick problem at all. But that is my experience. This is a great rom though, so I would suggest going for it when you are ready. And on top of that, you will be ready for the next updates these guys release.

I used the Chaos Method too and went through the same thing. It is Day 4 now and have still had no problems. Phone is very responsive and I've enjoyed customizing it and all the exta internal storage ;) I wanted to update to vc (scary as it was as you know if you saw some of my Chaos Method posts) because I wanted to make sure I stayed current. While the older ROMs are still out there, understandably once a new version is released the older ones are no longer supported. Also it keeps you up to date so you don't fall behind when new stuff comes out.

Wow

Thats crazy
was having all sorts of space issues after doing
1.7->6.2->update->1.7
the system was taking up 160mb! according to disk usage
just cleared dalvic cash and reflashed 1.7, down to 52mb

was starting to loose it, even went as far as uninstalling angry birds :(

Took the plunge, followed the instructions above and SUCCESS!

Thanks to all.
